Amazing New STUDENT LEADERSHIP in SUSTAINABILITY Program Rolls Out to Local Schools
|
Since September 2010, Be The Change has delivered its groundbreaking Student Initiative program to hundreds of high school students across the Lower Mainland, engaging them in collaborative, experiential education with a focus on environmental sustainability and social justice.
The program's successful pilot year was highly experimental and an incredible learning experience. Over the course of the summer, we have been working in close collaboration with teachers and students to catalyze the feedback we received into the most effective high school engagement program possible. The STUDENT LEADERSHIP in SUSTAINABILITY program that has emerged is a truly unique and comprehensive offering, featuring a combination of assembly presentations, teacher lesson plans, multimedia resource kits, certificates of achievement, and student "Action Packs" that inform and empower students to take on the world's most pressing social and environmental issues right here in their home communities.
Be The Change will be rolling out the Student Leadership in Sustainability program to over ten different schools throughout the Lower Mainland this semester. To find out how you can help bring the program to your school, please contact program coordinator Erin Leckie by calling 604-269-9874 or via email at: erin@bethechangeearthalliance.org.

BTC Breaks New Ground With Municipality of Mission - Symposium on October 15 Launches "SustainAbility" Plan
|
Be The Change has embarked on an exciting journey of community engagement through a synergistic new partnership with the Municipality of Mission, bringing Action Circles to its Social Development and Restorative Resolution programs. This partnership presents a wonderful opportunity for Be The Change to use our citizen engagement program to help Mission's Social Development department develop a community-supported Sustainability Plan. Being able to work with the generative foundation of citizen leaders who are trained in dialogue and circle process by the Mission Restorative Justice program is an honour and privilege. This work will help the Municipality of Mission to foster deeper community connections between its public servants and the general public. To help introduce our program to the community, Be The Change will host an information booth at the upcoming Celebrate Mission Event, taking place Saturday, September 17 in Heritage Park, and will present an Awaken The Dreamer-Be The Change Symposium in Mission on October 15. What is a Symposium? Thanks to the multi-media work of the Pachamama Alliance's Awakening The Dreamer Initiative, this informative and compelling workshop provides visually rich A/V materials featuring international luminaries like Julia Butterfly Hill, Paul Hawken, Brian Swimme, Maude Barlow, Desmond Tutu, and Van Jones. Trained facilitators lead participants through engaging activities and four critical questions about our relationship with the planet: Where are We? How Did We Get Here? What Is Emerging? and Where Do We Go From Here? This inspiring Symposium ends with an opportunity to channel your passion into action with a Be The Change Action Circle - a concrete program of facilitated weekly or biweekly gatherings, bringing together like-minded people to grow, learn, and make inspiring lifestyles changes in a supportive community environment. Event details:Date: Saturday, October 15, 2011
