Astia Newsletter: December 2010

Sharon Vosmek, CEO Astia

Message from the CEO

Wait! Just one more Astia newsletter before you are off for the holidays!

I hope that I have caught you in time -- there is still so much to share. These past twelve months have been exceptional for Astia and for the companies we serve. To give you a sense of it all, this month's newsletter spotlights our impact over the past twelve months.

Your many and valued contributions are what allow us to continue to be the resource for exceptional woman-led start-ups. Astia is you!

This month -- as we do each December -- we ask the "Astia you" to consider another type of contribution to the community. Your financial support today not only provides the valuable resources that we need to do this work, it also provides critical validation of our mission to propel women's full participation as entrepreneurs and leaders in high-growth businesses, fueling innovation and driving economic growth.

We hope that the many positive messages found in each month's newsletter will remind you of what you are a part of -- and inspire you to continue in your role as an Astia community member. You make this all possible.

As you prepare for holiday time with friends and family, I hope that you will take a moment to pledge your financial commitment -- and join with the community of others who have already made their pledge.

I can't wait to see you all in the New Year. Until then, I wish you and yours a most peaceful New Year.

Cheers,

Sharon Vosmek
Chief Executive Officer

BAIA Panel: Women Entrepreneurs, the US vs. the European/Italian Experience

January 19, 2011 - 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Location: Cooley LLP, 101 California Street, San Francisco, CA

Despite their majority representation at colleges and universities as well as increased participation in science and engineering, women are under-represented among business founders, particularly in high-tech and in other high-growth fields. In addition, there seems to be a disconnect between opportunities and resources in equity funding for high growth women-owned/led businesses. This is true for the U.S but even more so for Europe and Italy.
