February 2010 Astia Newsletter

Sharon Vosmek, CEO Astia

Message from the CEO

2010 is shaping up to be the year of the female entrepreneur!

Why do I say this? Call it female intuition validated by a recent flurry of conversation on the subject, including:

* Cindy Padnos, Managing Director, Illuminate Ventures this month published a well-researched whitepaper demonstrating the opportunity of women entrepreneurs. This comprehensive look at the venture industry has some exciting findings that you can read about by downloading it here>>

* A great number of groups with Astia - such as
Women 2.0, Girls in Tech, The Next Women, NCWIT, FWE&E, 85 Broads and others are now working together on several programs and initiatives. Each working hard to move the bar for women in a more collaborative approach.

* Vivek Wadhwa spurred an entire internet rage session by asserting that the lack of female tech entrepreneurs was a societal failure and then followed it up with a one-two punch in Tech Crunch charging some Silicon Valley VCs with having a gender problem

Add to these and other similar conversations, the fact that Astia companies continue to see significant activity from investors and from my point of view - we have an interesting convergence of events worthy of note.

While all of this is happening on the macro-level, here within Astia we continue to position ourselves to deliver increased value to our clients. In an effort to streamline back-end processes and operations, we welcome Mark Moore as Director of Operations and Finance. Mark will be based in the San Francisco office to run our global operations. Not only are we excited for the expertise Mark brings, we are pleased with the diversity of gender and race that he embodies as well. Please do join us in welcoming Mark to team Astia!

As always, there is much news to share. Read on and get a flavor for all that will be Astia 2010!

Cheers,

Sharon Vosmek

Chief Executive Officer

India

Astia India has had a truly amazing start to the year 2010!

* Astia Indias legal existence as a liaison office is underway with the support of our legal partners in India, J Sagar Associates.

* Astia Advisory Board Member, Anurakt Jain, DFJ India, Sharon Vosmek and Ruchi Khemka enjoyed an enthusiastic response from the many entrepreneurs, investors, potential sponsors and government officials they met with last week.

* As in our other markets, key strategic partners such as 85 Broads Mumbai, offered valuable connections and opportunities to partner and collaborate on programs for women.

* Due to this enthusiastic response from the eco-system, not only in India but across other Astia markets, Astia India now plans to have a day-long launch program in India in July / August 2010. More details on the same will be shared shortly.

If you have any questions about Astia´s foray into India or would like to contribute and help us with the process, please feel free to contact me, Ruchi Khemka
