Message from the CEO
I have been twittering away this past week as I
traveled to London and then NYC for the AstiaUK and
AstiaNYC programs and Advisory Board meetings and what I would say is -
entrepreneurs are alive and kicking. While the broader economic news continues
to cause heartburn, entrepreneurs tirelessly toil away with their innovation.
And wise they are to do so.
Experts agree, now is the time to pay attention to
high-growth entrepreneurs and the venture capital community. Even with the
bleak economic forecasts, the market for innovative startups has remained
viable, as venture capital fundraising timetables are lengthy and deal in liquid
capital. Not as easily affected by the credit crisis, venture capitalists have
money that could potentially fund and grow the next wave of start-ups, the jobs
they create, and the economic recovery we all seek.
So, to embrace this opportunity equally for women, Astia
will continue to extend its reach. In 2009, with the leadership of our
community, Astia will serve entrepreneurs in three markets and prepare for a
fourth. Because the way forward out of this morass - while challenging - is the
only way for the entrepreneur - and therefore, the only way for
Astia.
Cheers, Sharon Vosmek Chief Executive Officer
