A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Sharon Vosmek
You may have noticed that we have been busy at Astia - even skipping the August newsletter to focus on our conversations with the over 125 entrepreneurs who were under consideration for our fall 2008 program in Silicon Valley.  The selection process was comprehensive and include many perspective as we assessed, "is this deal fundable?"

1)  Over 60 screeners reviewed online applications and talked with companies on our behalf
2)  108 investors and experienced start-up executives participated in in-person screening in Palo Alto and New York
3)  Nearly 50 companies have been invited to participate in our program with close to half qualifying to present at it, Nov 19, 20th and 21st.

And the 2007 companies continue to see success with the acquisition of Lipomics by Thethys.  This raises our funding success rate to 63% since 2003, and 55% for last year's class.

But we have other efforts moving forward as well:
  • Astia continues to grow.  We have added new members to our team.
  • Brynna Deaver has a new role engaging our communities around the globe (yes, Astia communities extend around the globe now!) on behalf of our clients.
  • Astia UK officially launches October 14th at the British Venture Capital Association breakfast
  • Advisory Board planning for Astia's spring programs in NYC land London are under way with dates to be announced in October.
  • And last but not least, Astia India is being mapped by our community even as I write this!
Wow!  We have a lot going on - but let me be clear - it is all towards one goal - the success of the women led, high-growth companies we serve.

I do hope to see you all at it- and at our annual Awards Dinner.

Cheers,
Sharon

1540 Broadway, New York, NY 10036-4039

The Early Stage Summit is the premier conference on the East Coast connecting entrepreneurs and investors. The conference was founded by Richard Hecker, Chief Bootstrapper at Bootstrapper.com, who was frustrated by the lack of quality events on the East Coast bridging together the venture community.
