Learn Downtown
University of Phoenix
Looking to advance your academic credentials? Now there's a new option in the heart of Downtown - the University of Phoenix.
The school offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, onsite and online, and is conveniently located in the former Chamber of Commerce space in the First Bank building on Cascade at Pikes Peak. Five classrooms and 30 staff, as well as a 2,300 square-foot Student Resource Center comprise the Downtown campus. (An additional 15 classrooms are located in the Rockrimmon area.)
Programs include Business, Management, Education, Psychology, Counseling, Health Administration and Criminal Justice. Classes begin throughout the year and are held for one night, four hours per week, and last five, six or nine weeks depending on the degree program. Students may elect to attend in person, online or a combination of both.
Campus Director Brittany Nielson expressed excitement about opening the Downtown campus. "It puts us closer to our students and gives them more options for meals, caffeine and errands between their long work day and evening class. Additionally, increasing access to higher education in Colorado Springs is a great win for our community and future economy," she said.
"In addition to bringing customers to our Downtown businesses, we bring access to knowledge and experience about the many complex skills required to run a successful business. We're proud of our practitioner faculty, who work in the fields they teach, and our students, who are experienced business owners and employees."
Nielson invites Downtown Partnership members to stop by the campus at 2 N. Cascade for a tour, to meet with an academic advisor or just to greet our new neighbors. Contact her at Brittany.nielson@phoenix.edu. More information about school, its accreditation and programs can be found at www.phoenix.edu. |

Einstein's now Downtown
Bagel lovers will be happier now that Einstein Brothers Bagels has taken up residence Downtown. The shop opened in late December.
Occupying the nearly 3,000 square-foot space at 30-32 N. Tejon (former location of Mrs. Fields and Shewmaker's Camera Shop), Einstein offers its signature bagels - alone or as sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, snack or supper - as well as coffee and espresso creations, salads, soups, fruit and snack items. The shop is clean, modern and bright - a great start to your workday or midday eatery and respite from the office.
The company signed a 10-year lease. For more information, call 445-4795. |

Win-win
Gift Cards a big hit
The Downtown Gift Card program grew bigger and better last year! The cards encourage the act of buying local, offer recipients the chance to choose where to shop Downtown, and assure that our Downtown merchants are supported.
In 2011, nearly 3,000 cards were sold - 500 of them during the holiday season. Total sales for the year were nearly $64,000.
Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Maybe your sweetie would like to choose his or her own gift! What better way to do that than with a Downtown Gift Card? They can be purchased online at www.downtown80903.com or by stopping by the Downtown Partnership offices at 111 S. Tejon, Suite 309. For more information, call 886-0088.
