A healthier clean

"Green" Bag Lunch-n-Learn

Green cleaning is one way for building managers to make facilities healthier and safer for employees. It also contributes to the environment by reducing the amount of chemicals released during manufacturing and cleaning processes.

At this month's City Green Team "lunch-n-learn" on Thursday, June 24 (from 12:11 to 12:45 pm!), Sodexo's Thomas Allen will share how Colorado College uses both standard chemistry and modern technology without compromising hygiene or cleanliness.

Sodexo and CC led a campus-wide green cleaning conversion that won the 2008 Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities and is now a national model.

The lunch session will be held at the City Administration Building, 30 S. Nevada, in Suite 102. Bring your lunch and hope to win the door prize-a tote bag made from recycled City banners!  For more information contact Carrie McCausland at 719.385-2746 or email cmccausland@springsgov.com.

Puzzled no more

We've got answers

Is it a bird, perhaps a phoenix rising? Is it a human, running to greet thePuzzler day? Artist Jeremy Cooper of Lamar, CO fashioned this exuberant work of art entitled, "The Dancing Dawn." Cooper knows how he felt, what he meant - but now that he's shared his work in the 2010 Art on the Streets exhibit, you can delight in your own interpretation.

Discover it in the Colorado and Cascade Avenues median and other pieces from the exhibit by downloading a tour map at www.downtown80903.com. Maps can also be picked up at the Downtown Partnership, 111 S. Tejon, Suite 309.

CSPD Downtown Update

Colorado Springs Police Department has initiated a new Division for Downtown from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Officers in the Downtown area will have a separate radio channel and a dedicated dispatcher providing faster communication. This means more rapid responses from the officers, often enough to de-escalate situations before they become explosive.

Additionally, Wednesdays through Sundays, there are three full time officers dedicated to Downtown. This significantly boosts the concept of community policing.  The officers have gotten to know the club owners and doormen, and while there are still times of disagreement, there is a noticeably higher level of trust. The clubs are working with CSPD on many issues.

Since the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) now has less to do with removing the camps along Monument Creek, they are more visible riding their bikes through Downtown. HOT is still responsible for homeless issues throughout the city; there are times when these officers are in other areas. However, we will benefit from their presence in downtown a lot more often.

The Downtown Partnership thanks CSPD for its focus, effort and creativity in looking at ways to better provide services to Downtown.
