MGH - Center For the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Pilot/Feasibility Study Funding Opportunities
Promotes the research of both basic and clinical scientists in a wide range of areas:
immune and inflammatory responses, genetics of Inflammatory bowel disease, molecular mechanism of gastrointestinal cancer, epithelial cell biology, translational human immunology
Amount: $35,000 for one year, a second year will be considered on a competing basis

BWH
Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) Program
NIH-sponsored training grant entitled "Hormones and Genes in Women's Health" will support scholars involved in investigating the role of hormones and genes in understanding sex differences in vulnerabilities to clinical disorders and those disorders specific to women. Faculty appointments will be at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level, commensurate with qualifications. Applications from women and minorities are highly encouraged and desired.
Amount: $100,000 per year for 2 years; up to $75,000 can be used for salary

DFCI
The Benacerraf Fellowship was initially established in 1991 in recognition of Dr. Benacerraf's 10th anniversary as President of the Institute as well as his 70th birthday. This fellowship is intended to support a clinical or basic science fellow in immunology research at DFCI. The fellowship will support one fellow per year for a 2-yr period. Applicants should have no more than 3 years of postdoctoral experience; graduate students are encouraged to apply if their degree requirements are near completion.
Amount: $40,000 (1st year); 43,000 (2nd year)

DF/HCC
Kidney Cancer Specialized Program on Research Excellence (SPORE)
The purpose of this program is to promote translational research in kidney cancer. Applicants must be on the faculty at Harvard Medical School at the level of Assistant Professor or higher. Proposals will be accepted from investigators leading existing projects and pilot projects as well as currently non-SPORE funded investigators. All basic research supported by the SPORE must have a plan for translation into application or studies in humans within the 5 years of the grant proposal. In order to facilitate this translation, projects should be co-led by a basic and a clinically oriented scientist.
Amount: Up to $150,000/year for 2 to 5 years

CCR Grants are open to scientists who have held faculty positions for no more than six years at the time of full application to achieve research independence.

Prevent Cancer Foundation  

Early career researchers at the instructor or assistant professor level, senior researchers who have shifted their area of interest toward primary and secondary cancer prevention, and researchers at any academic level who need seed funding to test an innovative hypothesis are eligible to apply. For the fall 2012 cycle, proposals on lung, breast and colorectal cancer research are especially encouraged.
Amount: $40,000 per year, for 2 years
Deadline: Hard-copy applications are due September 14, 2012

Alex's Lemonade Stand

'A' Award Grant 

The 'A' Award is a three-year grant designed for young scientists who want to jump-start their career in pediatric oncology research. Candidates must not have achieved an appointment higher than assistant professor. Applicants MAY have other research grants during the 'A' Award period, but there must be clear documentation of mechanisms to avoid scientific and/or budgetary overlap. MD or MD, PhD candidates must be no more than 6 years after finishing 3-year fellowship. MD candidates who did not do a 3-year fellowship must have 3 years of research experience after MD was awarded and be no more than 9 years after receiving MD PhD candidates must be no more than 6 years since being awarded PhD.   

Amount: $375,000 over 3 years

The Medical Foundation
Charles H. Hood Foundation: Child Health Research Awards Program
Investigators must be within five years of their first faculty appointment (inclusive of any independent research positions in a for-profit company). Research must be relevant to children's health. Research must be: hypothesis-driven clinical, basic science, public health, health services research and epidemiology projects. Hospital divisions may select no more than two Applicants to submit proposals. There are no limitations on departmental or institutional submissions.
Amount: $75,000 for 1 year

Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO

Career Development Award

Awards are intended to support proposals in all oncology subspecialties. The applicant must be a physician who is within the 1st to 3rd year of a full-time, primary faculty appointment in a clinical department at the time of grant submission. Grant applications from candidates with existing career development awards (such as K23, K08, or any other type of career development award) will not be considered.

Amount: $200,000 over 3 years

Deadline: September 27, 2012

 

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - AACR Innovative Grants 

Proposals will be accepted for new ideas and innovative approaches that have direct application and relevance to pancreatic cancer. New ideas and innovative approaches may include, but are not limited to, those that utilize novel theoretical concepts, approaches or methodologies, instrumentation or interventions.Submissions will be accepted from independent investigators at all levels. Any individual who currently holds an active AACR grant may not apply. 

Amount: $200,000 over 2 years

American Cancer Society

Pilot and Exploratory Projects in Palliative Care of Cancer Patients and Their Families

U.S. Non-Citizen National , U.S.A. Citizens, U.S. Permanent Resident  Only. Funding for investigators performing pilot and exploratory research studies that test interventions, develop research methodologies, and explore novel areas of research in palliative care of cancer patients and their families. Applicants must have a full-time faculty position. Independent investigators at all stages of their career are eligible to apply. Thus, the usual ACS restriction to investigators within the first six years of their initial independent research appointment does not apply.  

Amount: $60,000/year, for 2 years

American Cancer Society
Mentored Research Scholar Grant in Applied and Clinical Research
U.S. Non-Citizen National , U.S.A. Citizens, U.S. Permanent Resident  Only. Mentored Research Scholar Grants in Applied and Clinical Research provide support for mentored research and training to full-time junior faculty, typically within the initial four years of their first independent appointment. The goal is for these beginning investigators to become independent researchers as either clinician scientists or cancer control and prevention researchers.
Amount: $135,000/year, for 5 years

American Cancer Society 

Research Scholar Grants

U.S. Non-Citizen National , U.S.A. Citizens, U.S. Permanent Resident  Only. Research Scholar Grants provide the resources for investigator-initiated research in a variety of cancer-relevant areas. Applicants must be independent, self-directed researchers within six years of their first academic appointment. 

Amount: Up to $200,000 a year, 4 year maximum

Deadline: October 15, 2012

 

Melanoma Research Alliance

MRA Team Science Awards  

Multidisciplinary teams of two or more PIs to support projects with the potential to lead to transforming advances in prevention, early detection, staging and/or treatment of melanoma. All PIs in the team share authority for scientific leadership. The designated Administrative PI is responsible for administrative leadership. New for the 2013 award cycle is the requirement that each team must include at least one Young Investigator as a co-investigator. 

Amount: $1 million total over 2 to 3 years   

Deadline: LOI - October 15, 2012   

 

Association for International Cancer Research  (AICR)

Awards support fundamental and translational research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek advice from AICR's Scientific Coordinator if there is any probability the project is not covered by this description. Applications will be considered in which studies on patients, volunteers, clinical records or human tissue are used to address a fundamental scientific question.  

Amount: £200,000 over 1 to 3 years

American Association for Cancer Research  (AACR)

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Career Development Awards
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Career Development Awards represent a joint effort to encourage and support junior faculty who are in the first five years of a faculty appointment (at the start of the grant term) to conduct pancreatic cancer research. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2013, applicants must hold a full-time faculty position, but cannot have been in the position more than five years
Amount: $200,000 over two years
Deadline: October 31, 2012

Melanoma Research Alliance
MRA Young Investigator Award
The MRA is soliciting proposals that address the gap in translational science, i.e., turning scientific discoveries into tools and/or treatments for high risk individuals and melanoma patients. Investigators must be within 4 years of their first academic faculty appointment
Amount: $75,000/year for 3 years
Deadline: November 15, 2012

Epidemiology Grants

These grants are designed to support the research of investigators who have a specific focus on the epidemiology, early detection, or the prevention of childhood cancer. Eligible areas of investigation include the following: Epidemiology and etiology of childhood cancer; Early Detection of Childhood Cancer; Prevention of Childhood Cancer; and some Preclinical research. Applicants should be at the late Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. Applicants may be MD or PhD, and must have a history of formal training in disciplines that are relevant to the proposed research or a track record of conducting similar research.  

Amount: $100,000 up to 2 years

All Fellowships are due into the Office of Grants and Contracts five business days prior to the sponsor's deadline for DFCI review and approval prior to submission to the sponsor.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society  

Career Development Program - Fellow

This award encourages investigators to embark on an academic career involving clinical or fundamental research in, or related to, leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma under a research sponsor's direction. Applicants may submit only one (1) application. In addition, no more than one application in each program category will be accepted from any one Sponsor (lab head) in any one calendar year.  

Amount:  $55,000/year for 3 years.  

Deadline: LOI due September 15, 2012

 

American Cancer Society 

This award is to support the training of researchers who have received a doctoral degree to provide initial funding leading to an independent career in cancer research (including basic, preclinical, clinical, cancer control, psychosocial, behavioral, epidemiology, health services and health policy research). Depending on availability of special endowment funds, the Society annually selects one or more of the top-ranked fellowships to be supplemented above the standard stipend.

Aid for Cancer Research  

Aid for Cancer Research Fellowship 

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or must be a legal permanent resident of the U.S. The sponsor offers two-year fellowship assistance aimed at providing advanced opportunities in the field of cancer research to individuals with an MD and/or PhD. degree.   

Amount: $45,000/year for 2 years

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - AACR Fellowship  

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Fellowship represents a joint effort to encourage and support a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow who is in the first three years of his/her fellowship training. Research projects must have direct applicability and relevance to pancreatic cancer. They may be in any discipline of basic, clinical, translational or epidemiological research, and fall within at least one of the categories of the Common Scientific Outline (Biology; Etiology; Prevention; Early Detection, Diagnosis, and Prognosis; Treatment; Cancer Control, Survivorship, and Outcomes Research; or Scientific Model Systems, see AACR website for more details.

Amount: $45,000 for one year 

Deadline: October 31, 2012

 

American Society of Hematology  (ASH)

Research Training Award for Fellows (RTAF)

The ASH RTAF is designed to encourage junior researchers in hematology, hematology/oncology, or other hematology-related training programs to pursue a career in academic hematology. Both junior and senior investigators are eligible to apply, see the ASH website for more details. 

Amount: $50,000 for one year
