Priority Focus in Cancer Control and Prevention Research Program: Health Disparities Research
Sponsor is requesting applications in psychosocial and behavioral research and in health policy and health services (palliative care) research that address cancer health disparities. Within the Cancer Control and Prevention Research Program (one of five research programs in the EG department), meritorious applications focusing on disparity reduction will be funded prior to meritorious applications focusing on other areas in cancer control and prevention research. In order to qualify for the Priority Program, the application must explicitly demonstrate its relevance to cancer disparities and specify how the results of the proposed study can be used to reduce disparities.
Amount: varies by mechanism
Deadline: October 15, 2011

Mentored Research Scholar Grant in Applied and Clinical Research
The purpose of the Mentored Research Scholar Award is to support junior faculty members with a doctoral degree in a clinical or cancer control research discipline to acquire the research training, mentoring and experience necessary for transition into a successful career as an independent investigator. In addition to the research project itself; the activities during the award period must be designed to develop the necessary knowledge and skills in relevant areas through mentoring, and by enrolling in appropriate core curriculum courses and lectures.
Amount: $135,000/year for 5 years
Deadline: October 15, 2011

Pilot and Exploratory Projects in Palliative Care of Cancer Patients and their Families
This RFA provides funding for investigators performing pilot and exploratory research studies whose purpose is to test interventions, develop research methodologies, and explore novel areas of research in palliative care of cancer patients and their families. A condition of funding is a clearly defined plan as to how the investigator will use the results of the project to develop larger, extramurally funded research projects.
Amount: $60,000 per year
Deadline: October 15, 2011

Cancer Control Career Development Awards for Primary Care Physicians
This award is made to support primary care physicians with a rank of instructor to assistant professor who are pursuing an academic career with an emphasis on cancer control. Support is for primary care physicians in supervised programs intended to develop clinical and teaching expertise and the capacity to perform independent research or educational innovation in cancer control.
Amount: $100,000/year for 3 years
Deadline: October 15, 2011
Association for International Cancer Research
Research Grants
AICR awards grants to support fundamental or translational research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. The sponsor does not support clinical research. The sponsor will consider applications that include some clinical research in a project which is mostly basic or translational. However, completely clinical applications, such as intervention studies, clinical trials or health care delivery research are beyond the remit of AICR. Amount: £200,000 over 3 years
Deadline: October 28, 2011
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
The Marshall A. Lichtman Specialized Center of Research Program (SCOR)
This innovative program supports interdisciplinary research across at least three independent research projects that are integrated and supported by scientific core laboratories.
Amount: $6.25 million over 5 years
Deadline: LOI due November 1, 2011
Friends For An Earlier Breast Cancer Test
Grants Program
The sponsor provides funding for pilot projects that focus on new methods to improve detection of early breast cancer and are especially interested in the development of new techniques in the areas of biological or immunologic methods of early detection.

The Lustgarten Foundation: Cure Pancreatic Cancer Now
Correlative Studies Awards Program
The Lustgarten Foundation will fund selected correlative science proposals directly linked to a CTEP sponsored clinical trial of novel therapeutics for pancreatic cancer. These correlative studies will utilize the principles routinely applied to clinical diagnostic tests, including the use of appropriate pharmacodynamic (PD) endpoints, to develop assays that will provide robust and accurate measurements of drug effects in patient specimens. Any investigator eligible to receive support from CTEP and proposing to conduct CTEP-sponsored clinical trial of a novel therapy for pancreatic cancer will be eligible to apply for funding from Lustgarten for support of correlative studies related to the trial.
Amount: Unspecified
