Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program 

The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program is a career development program that enables junior faculty members to carry out original research on policy and moral dilemmas at the intersection of ethics and the life sciences. To maximize Scholars' development, three years of support are provided, requiring a 50% time commitment (carefully monitored) in each of the three years.

DF/HCC
 

MIT-DF/HCC Bridge Project 

The MIT-DF/HCC Bridge Project is designed to help bring the expertise of these two institutions to bear on translational problems in cancer research.  Particular emphasis is placed on fostering joint approaches by engineers and cancer scientists. Launched in 2009, the Bridge Project has supported six teams thus far. The current Bridge Project focus areas are pancreatic and brain cancers, and applications working at the interface of engineering, physical sciences, and translational medicine will be advantaged.
Amount: up to $500,000 to cross-institutional teams for up to 2 years

HMS 

HMS Foundation Funds 

Each year several foundations invite HMS faculty and postdocs to apply for their fellowships and grants, which serve as critical funding at the early stages of a research career. Interested investigators must first apply for the HMS nomination through the HMS Foundation Funds, and a committee will select the final candidates to submit applications to the foundations. Information on funding opportunities offered through the HMS Foundation Funds will
be available online beginning September 6.

Career Catalyst Research (CCR) 

CCR Grants provide unique opportunities for scientists in the early stages of their careers to achieve research independence. Areas of research include basic, translational/clinical, and disparities in breast cancer outcomes across population groups. 

Amount: $150,000 per year for up to 3 years

Deadline: LOI due August 30, 2011  

 

Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy

2011 Young Investigator Award 

Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, Inc. (ACGT) funds research aimed at furthering the development of cell
and gene therapy approaches to the treatment of cancer. To this end, ACGT offers its Young Investigator
Award to qualified scientists at the Tenure Track Assistant Professor level.

Amount: $300,000 over 3 years 

Deadline: abstract due September 1, 2011

 

Foundation for Digestive Health and Nutrition

Funderburg Research Scholar Award in Gastric Cancer 

The sponsor supports the research of investigators working on novel approaches in the gastric cancer, including the fields of gastric mucosal cell biology; regeneration and regulation of cell growth (not as they relate to peptic ulcer disease or repair); inflammation (including Helicobacter pylori) as precancerous lesions; genetics of gastric carcinoma; oncogenes in gastric epithelial malignancies; epidemiology of gastric cancer; etiology of gastric epithelial malignancies; or clinical research in the diagnosis or treatment of gastric carcinoma.

Amount: $50,000 per year for 2 years

Concern Foundation

CONquer canCER Now Grant 

The sponsor will provide funding for researchers who lack financial support for their first major research project in the areas of cancer genetics, cell biology, and immunology. 

Amount: $60,000 for one year

The Lustgarten Foundation: Cure Pancreatic Cancer Now 

Basic Research Innovator Awards 

The Lustgarten Foundation is announcing its "Innovator Awards Program" to fund proposals aimed at supporting novel, "out of the box" research proposals in the area of translational research (bringing the findings of the basic sciences to bear on practical, clinical applications for patients).  The Foundation has a particular interest in grants addressing early detection and novel therapeutics but will accept all areas of translational study.  

Amount: $100,000 for one year

Deadline: Concept Proposal due September 12, 2011  

 

Prevent Cancer Foundation

Research Grants 

The sponsor aims to prevent cancer through scientific research and education, as well as early detection. Grant proposals will be considered in the following categories: basic, clinical, translational, and applied research projects; education programs in cancer prevention; early detection projects; and behavioral intervention projects. Examples of acceptable proposals are: research projects which, if successful, may lead directly to reducing the incidence of cancer; primary and secondary prevention research on all types of cancers; and creative or innovative approaches to cancer prevention research.

Amount: $40,000/year for 2 years

American Skin Association 

Research Scholar Award for Melanoma/Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer 

The applicant must have a strong career goal within the field of dermatology and be dedicated to the furtherance of

knowledge concerning melanoma/non-melanoma skin cancer. The research must be focused on new discoveries in the basic and clinical sciences, which should have current or potential impact on the understanding and treatment of melanoma/non-melanoma skin cancer. 

Amount: $60,000 for one year

Deadline: September 15, 2011

 

Hood Foundation

Child Health Research Awards Program 

The intent of the Award is to support newly independent faculty, provide the opportunity to demonstrate creativity, and assist in the transition to other sources of research funding. Research projects must be relevant to child health. Grants support hypothesis-driven clinical, basic science, public health, health services research, and epidemiology projects.   

Amount: $150,000 over two years 

Deadline: September 16, 2011, noon 

 

Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO

Career Development Award 

The sponsor provides funding to clinical investigators who have received their initial faculty appointment to establish an independent clinical cancer research program. The awards are intended to support proposals in all oncology subspecialties. Applicants must be a Full Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) or have submitted a membership application with the grant application.  

Amount: $200,000 over 3 years 

Deadline: September 28, 2011 

 

Case (Wendy Will) Cancer Fund, Inc. 

Grant Program 

The sponsor supports innovative researchers. The primary interest is, but not limited to, clinically-related research on cancer. Generally the sponsor does not consider applications which have not been reviewed by one or more major United States funders.

Amount: $30,000 or less for one year 

Deadline: October 1, 2011

 

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network 

AACR Research Grants Program 

Four grant mechanisms are offered. Funding is available for postdoctoral/clinical research fellows as well as for independent junior and senior researchers. The proposed research must be directly relevant to pancreatic cancer and can be basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological in nature.

Amount: varies by mechanism

Deadline: depending on mechanism, LOI due October 3, 2011 or full application due October 31, 2011 

 

American Cancer Society

Priority Focus in Cancer Control and Prevention Research Program: Health Disparities Research 

Sponsor is requesting applications in psychosocial and behavioral research and in health policy and health services (palliative care) research that address cancer health disparities. Within the Cancer Control and Prevention Research Program (one of five research programs in the EG department), meritorious applications focusing on disparity reduction will be funded prior to meritorious applications focusing on other areas in cancer control and prevention research. In order to qualify for the Priority Program, the application must explicitly demonstrate its relevance to cancer disparities and specify how the results of the proposed study can be used to reduce disparities.

American Cancer Society 

Pilot and Exploratory Projects in Palliative Care of Cancer Patients and their Families 

This RFA provides funding for investigators performing pilot and exploratory research studies whose purpose is to test interventions, develop research methodologies, and explore novel areas of research in palliative care of cancer patients and their families. A condition of funding is a clearly defined plan as to how the investigator will use the results of the project to develop larger, extramurally funded research projects.

Amount: $60,000 per year

American Cancer Society  

Cancer Control Career Development Awards for Primary Care Physicians 

This award is made to support primary care physicians with a rank of instructor to assistant professor who are pursuing an academic career with an emphasis on cancer control. Support is for primary care physicians in supervised programs intended to develop clinical and teaching expertise and the capacity to perform independent research or educational innovation in cancer control.

Amount: $100,000/year for 3 years

Deadline: October 15, 2011

 

Association for International Cancer Research

Research Grants 

AICR awards grants to support fundamental or translational research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. The sponsor does not support clinical research. The sponsor will consider applications that include some clinical research in a project which is mostly basic or translational. However, completely clinical applications, such as intervention studies, clinical trials or health care delivery research are beyond the remit of AICR.Amount: £200,000 over 3 years

The Lustgarten Foundation: Cure Pancreatic Cancer Now 

Correlative Studies Awards Program 

The Lustgarten Foundation will fund selected correlative science proposals directly linked to a CTEP sponsored clinical trial of novel therapeutics for pancreatic cancer. These correlative studies will utilize the principles routinely applied to clinical diagnostic tests, including the use of appropriate pharmacodynamic (PD) endpoints, to develop assays that will provide robust and accurate measurements of drug effects in patient specimens.  Any investigator eligible to receive support from CTEP and proposing to conduct CTEP-sponsored clinical trial of a novel therapy for pancreatic cancer will be eligible to apply for funding from Lustgarten for support of correlative studies related to the trial.

Amount: Unspecified
