Happy Thanksgiving
from Backyard Concepts
Greetings!

It is the official kick off to the busy Holiday Season and it looks like it might even come with a little touch of winter... North Texas style, a twenty degree artic temperature drop followed directly by a heat wave!

QUICK POND REMINDERS:
  • As the temperatures in North Texas drop be sure to pull in any tropical plants that may be in your pond. Tropical Lilies are probably the most critical. If you want to save them for next year they must be brought inside. Hardy lilies will be just fine in your pond over the winter.

  • You should be feeding fish a Cold Weather Fish Food now. Our pond temperatures today(11/10/07 4pm) are 72 degrees (obviously 'pre-cold front'). When the water temperature drops below 55 degrees, stop feeding your koi and goldfish. Do not start feeding again until the water temperature rises back to 55 degrees.

  • Keep adding Cold Water Bacteria. It will help provide a clearer pond in the spring.

  • The trees are really starting to shed leaves now. Pond Nets are a great help in controlling how much debris will end up in the bottom of your pond. Trust me... leaves and junk falling in the pond now makes for a real nasty pond clean-out in the spring.
Be sure to check out www.backyardconcept.com for more pond tips.
