Deliver a meal in August to someone who is counting on you and give the phrase "Sunday Drive" new meaning It is up to Grace Church to make sure meals are delivered to Madison-area residents in August and February of each year through the local Meals on Wheels program. Three Sundays this month are yet to be filled - east and west routes. It's easy and rewarding. The entire task usually takes from 60 to 90 minutes, beginning at 11 or 11:30 a.m. If my daughter and I each take a route this Sunday, we still have one opening for Aug. 12 (east OR west; I have one volunteer who can do either side), Aug. 19 (east), and Aug. 26 (west). Driving directions and other info supplied. Great for parents and children, couples, or friends. August is here. Please contact me at 241-3039 or fmhartman@mac.com. - Francine Road Trip! The folks who attend the noon service at Grace are going on a little field trip on Sunday, August 19, to visit St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 413 S 2nd Street, Watertown, WI 53094, where our very own Oscar Rozo is the deacon in charge. We'll be leaving from Grace at 8:30am. Any who are interested in going with us should contact Mary and Tom Ray Worley: 223-0173, rayworley85@gmail.com.August 8 12:10 p.m. Mid-day Eucharist August 12

Formation Course Catalog Debuts this Sunday!
Just when you thought things couldn't get any slicker, Lauren Gallant Cochran, Formation Director, has done it again. As an insert in this Sunday's bulletin, you will find a course catalog covering Formation activities and happenings for every age and interest level from Fall through Spring. Ponder the catalog and sign up for courses that speak to you. Advance registration and a minimum number of registrants for courses to occur will help us plan successful programs that respect both time and talents. Catalogs will also be available at the back of the Nave. We're ready to get you pumped up at the Ministry Fair! Iron Man Ministry Fair 9/9 in the Guild Hall
It is time to starting pumping the iron and rounding up the brochures because the Iron Man Ministry Fair is almost here! This annual event is scheduled for Sunday, September 9th, between the morning services and during coffee hour. And yes, we know it's Iron Man Sunday! We are making it our theme for this year! Coffee hour snacks will include granola bars and bottled water, and everything you need to run/bike/swim your way around the Guild Hall. Each participating group will have a table (or a portion of a larger table) where they may set up. The more eye-catching and informational you make your table, the more visitors you will likely have. The ministries fair can accomplish different things depending on your group's interest: - To serve as a check in for all people in the parish to see what you have been up to recently (for example the Food Pantry would highlight that there is a new director).
- To recruit new members or volunteers for your group. Bring a signup sheet!
- To share future plans and events for this upcoming year. Bring handouts or pamphlets, posters, or other ways of sharing information.
If your group would like to participate please email me, Lauren G. Cochran, togracechurchformation@gmail.com, by September 3rd. I will be coordinating the set-up and clean-up. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to be in contact with me. The people of Grace Church do wonderful work and this is an excellent opportunity to share it with each other. In peace, Lauren Contemplative Service On August 26, at 6:00 in the evening, St. Dunstan's is offering a contemplative Eucharistic service for those who feel they worship best in quiet. The service will be simple, without a sermon, rather with periods of silence for the Spirit to speak to our hearts. The focus will be stillness of mind, body and spirit. If you would like to know more, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN, 845-2413.
Community of Hope - Growing in Christ
Here is an ideal opportunity to deepen your personal faith and discern your path for living out that faith in the world. The Community of Hope program creates a Christian community of lay volunteer pastoral care givers who are shaped by Benedictine spirituality, united in prayer and equipped for and serving in pastoral care ministries. Participants explore God's call in their lives through a training class where we practice a "rule of life" through silence, Christian meditation and learn about Pastoral care practices. Study topics include: Theology of Pastoral Care, Prayer, Christian Meditation, Silence, Listening Skills and Confidentiality. This national program started in Texas in 1994 and for the past several years has been taught at St Bartholomew's in Pewaukee. The Madison team is pleased to offer this class at St Luke's in Madison starting September 15th of this year. The third Madison-area Community of Hope class will be held on Saturdays, September 15th, October 20th, November 17th, December 15th, January 12th and February 16th. We will gather at 9:00 am, cover one of our topics, have Morning Prayer at 11:00, break for lunch, have our reflection on the rule of Benedict and cover a second topic adjourning at 2:00 pm. Applications are now available; there is a registration fee is $100.00. For more information, conversation or an application please contact Carol Smith or Diane Brown. - Carol Education for Ministry (EfM)
Program to Begin Again in September Information sessions will be held in July and early August for anyone who might be interested in finding out more about the Education for Ministry (EfM) program. The group meeting at St. Dunstan's has several openings for new members to begin the program with us in September. EfM is a four year theological education-at-a-distance program administered through the University of the South (Sewanee). The purpose of EfM is to provide lay people with the knowledge, resources, and tools to be effective and articulate ministers in the various ministries to which they may be called during their lives. Substantive course materials for the intensive study of Hebrew Scriptures, Christian Scriptures, Church History, and Theological Choices are provided. Course materials are prepared by well-credentialed scholars and clergy, and are at a level not generally available to the serious lay student outside of a university or seminary setting. Participants meet in weekly seminars facilitated by a trained mentor for discussions of readings, and to engage in models of theological reflection which enable them to gain knowledge and insights based on individual experience, personal and cultural beliefs, and scripture and tradition. Students bring their diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and life wisdom to a community endeavor of education in an atmosphere of openness, commitment and trust. Graduates of the program use the knowledge, skill, and wisdom gained in EfM to lead effective lives as ministers within their families, communities, and parishes. Many people in leadership roles at St. Dunstan's are EfM graduates or are currently involved in the program. Several diocesan clergy people are also former EfM participants or mentors; Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts-Schori is a graduate of the program. Fees are currently $350 per year. Scholarship funds are available to help students who cannot pay the full fee. The program year runs from September through May. Anyone interested in EfM is welcome to contact Gloria Alt at 608-370-6113 or medial_gal@yahoo.com. -Submitted by Gloria Alt
