 | | Som Sabadell Flashmob |
When Steve Webster sent me this video link to a symphonic flash mob the title to his e-mail was, "Brighten your Day".
I think the idea of the flash mob - whether it's a symphony in Sabadell or a group of college-aged Glee-clubers breaking out in song in the middle of a suburban Target - works wonderfully because it is an unexpected celebration of creativity that does just that - brighten. There you are just pushing through your day, putting items in your cart, thinking about the next six things on your to-do list and - wham-o! - you notice something starting around you that's not the regularly scheduled program.
Watching the reactions of the surprised stander-bys is wonderful: the joy, the honest human emotions that bubble forth when we recognize and give thanks for the talents of others gifted freely.
After watching several flash mob videos I began to wonder, how can we implement our own individual flashes of kindness and exuberance for those known and unknown passing through our days?
What laughter, funny story, bit of song, or clever fun can we bring to those around us when they least expect it? How can we use whatever talents we've been gifted to enrich the day before us?
Song, art, a well-written line, good food shared, a spark of curiosity - these are all things that lift up the soul and elevate.
Flashes of grace - stewarding our own moments of unexpected kindness.
