July 14, Grace Presents prepares itself for the delightfully clever Klezmer band, Yid Vicious. Set list here.
In their own words, "Klezmer is Yiddish folk music, music for dancing and celebrating, and Yid Vicious has been spreading its infectious, original blend of freylekh fun throughout the midwest and beyond for over a decade.
Although its repertoire is drawn mainly from traditional secular Yiddish music, the band strives to infuse the music with its own unique aesthetic and experience. Rather than replicate a particular time and place, Yid Vicious celebrates the long-standing tradition of klezmorim incorporating new musical ideas into an organic and ever-evolving art form.
The band's seven members blend their individual professional backgrounds in classical, jazz, and world music genres to create a Klezmer experience that will electrify audiences of all ages and backgrounds."
How fortunate we are to have the opportunity to host this group of musicians as they continue to explore and celebrate Klezmer music in America. Bring your friends, family (perfect for kids), and shopping bags. Between the Farmers' Market and what's waiting inside those big, lovely red doors of Grace - it's going to be a wonderful morning on the Capitol Square. Matzo balls optional.
