| Called to Serve |
Do you count pennies at night instead of sheep? Do you enjoy time alone with spreadsheets?
Then Grace has an immediate need for you as treasurer. If you have a business background please consider sharing your time and talents to help Grace Church organize and manage its finances. The treasurer is someone who can offer a few hours each week to review financial reports prepared by the Parish Financial Administrator, share information with the vestry, help vestry and staff with budget development, and approve expenditures and sign checks. The treasurer is a member of the executive committee whose work is supported by staff and volunteer committees. We are looking for someone with business experience, not necessarily in finance or accounting, as we are fortunate to have a Certified Public Accountant on staff and a finance committee whose members do have financial and accounting backgrounds.
The position of treasurer is a rewarding call for anyone who has a mind built for numbers. For more information, please contact Father Jonathan through the church office or Mary Ann Cook at 238-6974.

Grace Groups

Grace Book GroupThank you to everyone who came out for the "Meet the Author" event at the Goodman Center. And thank you to Pat and Wolfgang Werk for your work in organizing this. Our next meeting has been set: Wed., July 18th, 7 p.m. at the shelter beside the pool at Ruth Sanderson's home. We'll be reading The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance. While there are copies in the public library, there are also a number of holds. You are probably better off ordering it from Amazon.com or some other vendors. A bit about the book: "Edmund de Waal is a world-famous ceramicist. Having spent thirty years making beautiful pots -- which are then sold, collected, and handed on -- he has a particular sense of the secret lives of objects. When he inherited a collection of 264 tiny Japanese wood and ivory carvings, called "netsuke", he wanted to know who had touched and held them, and how the collection had managed to survive. And so begins this extraordinary moving memoir and detective story as de Waal discovers both the story of the netsuke and of his family, the Ephrussis, over five generations. A nineteenth-century banking dynasty in Paris and Vienna, the Ephrussis were as rich and respected as the Rothschilds. Yet by the end of World War II when the netsuke were hidden from the Nazis in Vienna, this collection of very small carvings was all that remained of their vast empire." Whether you've finished the whole book by July 18th or not, I hope you can join us! Please contact me for directions to Ruth's.

The ECW Connection Grace Episcopal Church Women JUNE 2012 REPORT The newly expanded executive board met in May with the following members present: Amanda Farrow, President; Pat Werk, Treasurer; Jane Henning, Mary Ray Worley, Ginny Shannon, Jane Ferris, and Linda Savage. Continuing an ECW tradition, all Grace Church High School graduates were honored and presented with a $100.00 check. It was voted by the board to award a $1,000.00 check to Oscar Rozo, our recently ordained priest graduate for the establishment of his ministry. The ECW also provided the celebration cake for the graduates and congregation at the June 3rd courtyard coffee hour. The Formation volunteers for the past academic year were also thanked with a special cake at the coffee hour celebration. The Episcopal Church Women held a very successful estate sale in May which netted a profit of over $14,000 for Grace Church. Thanks be to God for this hard earned windfall. Currently, many Grace workers have been laboring to stage another estate sale to be held this weekend (6/8 and 6/9) at 48 Oak Creek Trail (Memorial West H S area). We are expecting a good turnout for this sale, our final one of the spring season. Joyce Pollock and Marlys Bauman are again assisting our wonderful Estate Sale Manager,Susan Kies. Please support our efforts for Grace by shopping the estate sale this weekend. All items will be offered at half price on Saturday. In other actions at the May meeting, the ECW board approved a $2,000.00 request for the funding of our free concert series, Grace Presents. The varied musical performances at the Saturday series have been well attended. They are proving very popular with the Farmers' Market crowd. ECW commends parishioner Bruce Croushore for his leadership in arranging these excellent concerts. Mark your calendars, women of Grace, for our next ECW Advisory Council meeting which will be held at the home of Linda Savage (4015 Hiawatha Dr.) on Saturday, July 21st. As always, all Grace women are warmly encouraged to "have their say" at the Advisory Council's 10 a.m. meeting. Light refreshments will be served as we dream and scheme future plans for church projects. The fellowship at our last meeting was heartwarming and we are praying for an even greater turnout at the summer gathering. The ECW board is very thankful for the renewed surge of interest "in all things Grace" by the women in the church. Blessings to all as we shift gears to the 2012 summer months. Linda W. Savage, ECW Reporter

Grace Q & A
| Office staff often receive many questions about the day-to-day reasons why we do what we do and the logistics of church life. Here are a few recent ones:
Q: Why are the acolytes listed by first name only while the other service ministers have both their first and last name? A: After staff attended the Safeguarding God's Children workshop, we began to think more critically about what type of information we provide, especially in relation to children. As the majority of the acolytes are youth, we felt it prudent to only place their first names in the bulletin to safeguard their identities from someone who may try to discover their home address or other contact information.
Q: If I want to reserve a room at Grace, do I contact Jody? A: This is a great question which really needs larger clarification. The 24-hour-a-week position of Communication Coordinator (Jody) was formed after the original, full-time Parish Administrator role was eliminated, but it is not the same job. After some time of trying to determine which office staff will pick up the tasks normally associated with the role of Parish Administrator, Janet, the Financial Administrator for Grace, has recently accepted the second title of Parish Administrator.
If you need to reserve a room, place an event on the church calendar, or have any general questions about the day-to-day running of Grace Church, Janet is the go-to. She is readily available to assist you weekly, Monday through Thursday, either via e-mail (togracechurchfinance@gmail.com) or by phoning the church office. Janet also keeps all congregation records and publishes the church directory. If you have an address change, would like to add a birthday or anniversary, or update an e-mail address, please contact Janet to keep this information current.
If you need an event or ministry promoted in GraceNotes, the weekly service bulletin, or This Week @Grace, or would like to serve as a Service Minister, Jody is the office contact. Jody can also serve as a conduit for prayer requests. While her hours in the office vary, she can be reached by e-mail (togracechurch@gmail.com) any day of the week (please allow 24 hours for response time).
Outside of the roles that define us, all staff are always eager to try and answer questions or at best put people in touch with the people who can. We hope you will feel comfortable in reaching out to us, whatever it is you may wonder about or need.
