Meet the Author: William S. Schmidt
Hosted by: Grace Episcopal Church Book Discussion Group
Join William S. Schmidt, author of Walking with Stones: A Spiritual Odyssey on the Pilgrimage to Santiago, as he recounts his 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain. For over 1,000 years pilgrims have traveled The Camino de Santiago, also known as "The Way of St. James." The walking trails come from all over Europe and converge to end at Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain. Some travelers continue past Santiago to the sea of Finisterre, which was thought to be the end of the world in medieval times.
"This powerful memoir offers us the opportunity to walk the Camino with such vivid detail that at times we imagine we have the blisters, the camaraderie and the sore muscles. This pilgrimage is both deeply personal and profoundly universal, reflected upon with wisdom, humor, and pathos. We find our own stories of loss, grief, confusion, connection, and joy and triumph with every step."
