Youth Trip to the Madison Children's Museum today

It's a field trip!  Meet in the Godly Play room following 10 a.m. worship where children and chaperones will enjoy a lunch together before heading out.  While at the museum, you might see several Grace names.  A little bird noted Carla and Webb Smith and the Bolz Family have all played big roles in making the museum possible.  Maybe there are more?  But the real question is:  will Jonathan survive an afternoon of adult-sized hamster wheels and crawl-through play houses? Parents, please return at 3:30 p.m. to claim your child(ren) in the Guild Hall and find out!

Healing Food for the Seep Family
After the Children's Museum outing, Fr. Jonathan and Corrie will be giving a ride home to the Seep children.  Their mother recently had brain surgery and will be in recovery for several months.  They will be taking food and Corrie passes the message that if anyone else would like to contribute a meal, they would be happy to take it out to the Seeps. (They live in Marshall, so it is a bit of a drive).  Please place non-returnable dishes labeled "For the Seep Family" in the kitchen by Sunday noon.  Many thanks.

"In the Shoes of..." resumes March 4 and 11

This spring's Adult Forum series is called "In the Shoes of..." This is a chance for us to explore the radically different lives of people that are around us every day, some of which we notice and some we don't.

Mar 4     In the Shoes of...an Episcopal Monastic, Part 1

Mar 11   In the Shoes of...an Episcopal Monastic, Part 2

How often during the week do you pray?  Be honest.  Three times?  Once? Never?  What would your life look like if you woke up every day at 5 a.m. to pray?  How would that change your day?  Your life? Your relationship with God?  Come watch a short film on the life (and history for those of us who are newcomers to the Episcopal Church) of Episcopal Monastics. Learn more about what a typical day might look like for Episcopal nun or monk living in Wisconsin, and then try it yourself in the coming week! What would it be like to crack the spine of the Book of Common Prayer multiple times a day?  Come learn and try to live it at Adult Forum.  We will meet in the reception area right next to Guild Hall. Contact Lauren with any questions.  See you there!

Future Forums in this series:
Mar 18   In the Shoes of...the Liberian Peace Movement
Mar 25   Neil Radtke, Guest Speaker - In the Shoes of...Our Companion Diocese

Apr 1     No forum - Palm Sunday
Apr 8     No forum - Easter
Apr 15   John Francis, Guest Speaker - In the Shoes of...No Impact Man, Part 1
Apr 22   In the Shoes of...No Impact Man, Part 2

All of that AND Dinosaurs!
If you have children who are interested in science, First Congregational UCC is hosting a science fair entitled, "God Loves Science" on Saturday March 3rd from 1-3 p.m.  It is geared for families with elementary or middle-school-aged children "looking to bridge the gap between science and religion."  There will be a short service and  presenters in the fields of physics, genetics, geology, probability, neurology, pulmonology, anthropology, theology, and dinosaurs (of course!).  Either contact me for more information, or go right to the source: Jeff Rabe (First Congregational UCC), 233-9751.

Outreach Lenten Series
Begins February 26
"From the Capitol Square to the World"
This Lenten season Grace is highlighting a different outreach mission each week during our 10 a.m. service.  Take a moment to learn first-hand the joys and challenges of outreach through the ministries of Episcopal Relief and Development, First Monday Meal, Grace Food Pantry, and the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee Companion Diocese of Tanzania.

First in the series:

Episcopal Relief and Development Sunday
Episcopal Relief and Development partners with churches of the Anglican Communion to foster economic opportunity, improved health, and emergency relief throughout the world.  The Diocese of Milwaukee Episcopal Relief liaison Melanie Stewart will join us on Sunday, February 26 during 10 am. worship and Coffee Hour to share information about ERD's work and stories from the field.

Episcopal Relief and Development offers a variety of opportunities for outreach:

NetsforLife prevents malaria through hands-on training and distribution of treated mosquito nets.

Refugees from the Ivory Coast arrive in a camp where they will find safety, shelter, food, and medicine.

Families receive supplies and training to provide economic opportunity and raise living standards.  Here, new beekeepers in Latin America learn how to care for their bees.

Join Melanie on the 26th as she helps us explore ways we might follow the call of Christ through our own personal ministries of outreach.

Celtic Eucharist offers time for Reflection

Tuesdays during Lent
February 28 - March 27

FOUNDATIONS of LAY PASTORAL CARE:

Exploring and Discerning Your Spiritual Life and Calling

Saturday, March 17
8:45a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

St. Luke's

4011 Major Ave., Madison, WI

Encouragement, prayer, healing, hospitality, listening with the ear of the heart - these are elements of lay pastoral care ministry.  Are you fulfilled when you can share your journey with others and help them in their quest for God? Then perhaps God's call and your heart's desire could be leading you to pastoral caregiving. We invite you to spend a Saturday morning considering the possibility, as well as exploring how to grow personally and integrate Benedictine spirituality into our lives.  Cost is $15.  RSVP preferred:  please contact Diane Brown at 608-444-6707 or diane@floods.org  to register.  Feel free to contact Kara Pagano or Carol Smith with questions.

An Invitation to Mindfulness

You are invited to come to a Public Presentation given by

Flint Sparks, PhD Psychologist and Zen Buddhist Priest Siddhartha Gautama

Mindfulness and the Many Aspects of Self: A Way through Suffering to Freedom

March 7th

7 - 9 p.m.

Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church

1833 Regent Street

Madison, WI

Siddhartha Gautama was interested in one fundamental question: How can we truly understand human suffering and how can we help end suffering for all beings? After an extensive search and dedication to finding the answer, he came to a shattering insight that led to the Enlightened State - becoming the Buddha. He invited his followers to engage in meditation practices to demonstrate through their own experience that liberation of the human heart and mind is possible.  What if the Buddha had used the language of modern mindfulness-based practices?  How would his teachings have sounded?  Please join us in sharing the resonance of these transformative teachings for all people regardless of religion, race, or culture and the profound possibility inherent in them.

Cost: Food Pantry Offering and Free Will Donation for the Teaching

Julian Gathering March 14
The Madison-area Julian Gathering is beginning our fourth year; a number of people have come to see what we're about and some have become 'regulars.'  We welcome everyone who is interested in learning more about contemplative spirituality in the Christian tradition.  We meet monthly for contemplative prayer for twenty-five minutes, after which we discuss a reading from Julian of Norwich, a 14th Century English mystic.  These gatherings are supported by the Order of Julian of Norwich, a contemplative monastic order in the Episcopal Church.

We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:15 PM at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 6205 University Ave., Madison, WI.  We end promptly at 9 PM. We would love to have you join us.  Our next meeting is March 14.  For further information, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN at (608) 845-2413 or slfiore@mac.com .
