This Week at Grace
January 2 - 8 |
Happy New Year!
For those of you following last week's post where I declared my plans to start the New Year with a contemplative walk - it didn't happen. Friday night son #1 rolled into Madison with a bad case of strep throat and pneumonia. This meant no New Year's Eve hike out in the crisp air. Instead we played Yahtzee and watched the episode of I Love Lucy where Lucy has her baby while Ricky waits down in the men's waiting area in his "woo-do" costume. We didn't even make it up past 10 p.m. But that's what is so interesting about life - its complete and utter unpredictability.
When I say go, God says "Stop." When I say uh, I'm not so sure, God says "Why not?"
And just like that a fine opportunity for fantastic unpredictable results is once again upon us this weekend at Grace: Foyers. Foyers, described in more detail in Chere's words below, is essentially a program designed to raise up two of the best things on the planet and within a church: food and community. Two things a person can never get enough of!
 | (Besides that cheesy potato casserole with the corn flakes on top!) | Take a chance this Sunday and show up in the Guild Hall for the start of a new season of Foyers. From what I've heard from others who have been a part of previous programs - you will be so glad you did. -Jody Foyers Kick-off Meal this Sunday
You are invited to join in from 5-8 p.m. on January 8th for the Grand Foyer meal in the Guild Hall! This kick-off meal will be a gathering time to meet at the church before those interested in signing up for a foyer group begin taking turns meeting in one
another's homes over the next few months.
What are Foyers?
Foyer Groups are a fun and easy way for parishioners to gather together on a regular but informal basis for purely social reasons - to enjoy one another's company, to strengthen bonds of community, to meet new members and just to get to know other people who share a common interest in Grace but with whom we might not otherwise interact. They provide a means to develop new friendships and deepen old ones and are a way to make our sometimes-too-large-seeming parish feel smaller and warmer.
There is no agenda or plan - just casual fellowship and a refreshing meal. Groups are made up of singles, couples, young people, retired folks, etc., in other words a cross-section of the parish. Out of the meetings, friendships develop among people who might not have any other opportunity to meet and get to know each other.
Each small group of six to eight people meet once every four to six weeks during the church year with the main focus on Christian fellowship, a refreshing meal and relaxed conversation.
How do I/we sign up?
E-mail Chere Gibson: ccgibson@wisc.edu (or phone 824-0303) if you are interested in signing up or learning more about how Foyers work. |
