August/2010

Dear Friends,

Jesus said "your joy no one can take from you!" This Sunday morning we will resume with part 2 of our 4-week series on Joy in the book of Philippians. Join us and let the Lord clothe you with gladness!

There are two special events we'd like to draw your attention to at the end of the month. First, on August 29th, we have our Water Baptism Celebration. If you need to be baptized in water, please see the info below.

Second, we have planned Church-wide prayer at 7AM & 7PM from August 30 to Sepetember 1 as we gear up for a fall filled with Kingdom impact. Save the dates!

 Too Busy
Ann Munene

I woke up recently with a phrase in my heart, "sometimes I feel like I am too busy with life to even focus on the SOURCE of life." Maybe it is just me but sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done. Some things get left out, but there are some things that we CANNOT afford to leave out or ignore, like our relationship with GOD. It should be TOP priority. We've probably all been there one time or another and just need to be reminded about our priorities, like Jesus did with Martha.

Luke 10:40-42 (New Living Translation)
40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me."
41 But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her."

YES, we need to remember that even though we have responsibilities, and we are taking care of business, even God's business, our relationship with him is #1. Martha was taking care of Jesus himself, making sure he was fed, which was a good thing. However, Jesus really wanted her to join Mary at his feet for a time of communion. We need to discern what is in the Lord's heart for every moment of our lives. At this time the Lord wanted QUALITY TIME with both Mary and Martha. We need to give the Lord quality time so that we can grow stronger in our bond of love with Him.

Too Busy - Ann Munene

Then, there are other times that we are just so blessed by what God has done and given us, that we are like the nine lepers that did not come back to thank God for their healing. Or like the children of Israel who, when in crisis, cried out to God for help. When they were blessed they forgot about God and did their own thing. That is why the Lord advised the children of Israel of the following, after they were delivered from Egypt and brought to Canaan:

Deutoronomy 8:11-14 (Message Translation)
11-16 Make sure you don't forget GOD, your God, by not keeping his commandments, his rules and regulations that I command you today. Make sure that when you eat and are satisfied, build pleasant houses and settle in, see your herds and flocks flourish and more and more money come in, watch your standard of living going up and up-make sure you don't become so full of yourself and your things that you forget GOD, your God.

Let us hear the Lord calling us today saying "one thing is needful," being with Him. Whether it is personal at home, in the presence of other believers, or in our day to day routines, let us carve out that quality time for the Lord. Let us not be too busy WITH LIFE that we forget to focus on the SOURCE OF LIFE!
