Root Down
By John Bidaurreta
2 Kings 19:31 "shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.." KJV 2009 is a year of expansion and fruitfulness. But before we can expand and grow above ground, there needs to be some growth and expansion below the surface. Isaiah 54:2 "Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;" My father was a landscape contractor, who would often bring home potted plants that were leftover from his jobs. He would just put them in the yard somewhere, in hopes of being able to use them for a future landscaping job. One day he brought home a redwood tree, and he placed it in the front yard. An amazing thing happened; the redwood tree's roots broke through the bottom of its container and tapped right into the soil. Now that redwood tree stands over 30 feet tall. Just like with that redwood tree, the Lord is calling us to put our roots down deeper in Him. We must break through any container or limitation that is holding us back. Isaiah 54:3 "For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited" One limitation in any relationship is time. Let's all make room in our busy schedules to spend quality time with Jesus. Lord Jesus, help us to lay aside every weight of sin that so easily besets us, and help us to be more like Mary, spending time at your feet. Lord Jesus bring the internal growth that is necessary, so we can expand and be fruitful. Psalm 1:3 "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. "
