Peace with God through Christ - A Testimony
By David Krause
Paul declares in Romans chapter 5, "1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God." (Romans 5:1-2 NIV) Isaiah in chapter 53 prophesied that the Messiah would take the judgment that we all deserved upon himself: "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:6 TNIV) Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus Christ, fulfilled this prophecy, as he declares in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Paul describes this supreme gift of God's love in Romans 5: "6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." (Romans 5:6-11 NIV) God has great patience with us, not wanting anyone to perish, but all to turn and come to him: "9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9 TNIV) God's love and desire for people to be reconciled to him is so great that he sent his own Son to give his life for every person who will receive this sacrifice by faith. Jesus declares, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 TNIV) This claim by Jesus is hard for many to receive. Yet if there had been any other way for people to be reconciled with God, he would not have sent his Son to make this supreme sacrifice for all who believe. This is my testimony of how I came to believe and receive these strong claims of Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus Christ. I have always believed in God as the Creator of the universe and of every person in it. I heard the Gospel at a young age at a Methodist Sunday School, and I cannot remember ever doubting that Jesus was raised from the dead. As a teenager, I attended a Bible teaching church and at age 16 went forward at a large Billy Graham meeting to make a commitment to follow Jesus. However, at that time I did not surrender to him as Lord or begin to love and serve him wholeheartedly. One day my father noticed a book I had borrowed from the church library critically analyzing the theory of evolution. One chapter described how flowers require bees for distribution of pollen and the bees need the flowers for food, and asked how they could have gradually evolved in the light of this relationship? Upset by the theme of the book he warned, "If you reject the theory of evolution, you will be setting your mind back two centuries." Not wanting to "set my mind back two centuries", I decided to accept the theory of evolution on authority without further question. This was a wrong turn, because as Psalm 118:8 declares, "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man." Since I still believed that God was the Creator, I began to consider that God might have directed the process of evolution culminating in the appearance of human beings. This unbiblical view fits well with certain Eastern teachings, and I become increasingly involved with Eastern philosophies and religions. (continued on the right)

Missions Week ~ Wednesday, March 4
|
|

Our Missions week is a time to hear missionaries speak to us from the front lines of ministry in the nations, and have our hearts re-ignited with the vision of world-wide revival.
Henry & Ivonne Smith, Ecuador, Wednesday, 7 pm
Since going to Guayaquil, Ecuador at age 8, Henry along with his wife Ivonne (whom he met in 2000) have been investing their lives in reaching young people for the past 8 years. After seeing the needs of the single moms and the fatherless in the slum areas and contending that "the local church is the HOPE of the world," they now dream of planting "a place of HOPE" in the midst of hopelessness.
We encourage you to dress in international/ethnic apparel as a part of our ministry focus on the nations. Let's prepare our hearts and prepare to be empowered to take the good to everyone!
(For a definitive prayer guide to the nations, people and cities of the world, you can purchase copies of Operation World for $5 in the bookstore.) |

| LifeBlog continued - Peace with God through Christ |
By David Krause
At age 35, in January 1977, I felt drawn to a Christian meeting where people were coming to receive prayer for healing in Jesus' name. In that meeting, I suddenly realized how much I had missed simply worshiping God as the Creator of heaven and earth, and began once again to see that Jesus is like no other person, and that there is power in his name. The soloist, Tarel Russell, sang with such love for Christ her King that I became hungry to experience that same love. The message preached by Roger Houtsma challenged me to learn more about how Bible prophesies are being fulfilled today. I began to listen to Bible teaching programs and started reading the Bible. However, part of me still clung tightly to my unbiblical ideas that did not fit with Jesus being the only way to reconciliation with God. Finally, I resolved to at least ask God if Jesus was sent to be my Lord and Savior, and soon I sensed his answer was "yes". Yet in the following months I continued to resist Jesus' words in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." I imagined that this statement might not apply to everybody. My wife was at odds with me about this issue, and finally I knew I had to hear from God so I prayed: "Father, who is right about this, me or Marla?" The answer was very clear: "Are you kidding?" I knew exactly what he meant. At that point, I realized there was one more thing I had to know with certainty, so I prayed asking God, "Is the Bible truly your Word, completely inspired by you and trustworthy in every respect?" He answered me with four words: "I wrote that Book." Finally I understood that to know God, I had to know the Bible, which is his Word, completely inspired and to be trusted. I also saw that to know the truth, I had to receive and believe the straightforward meaning of the Scriptures, and not interpret his Word according to my own preferences and ideas. The Holy Spirit then began the work of transforming me by the renewing of my mind. The Lord baptized me in the Holy Spirit and gave me boldness to proclaim his Word. Since then, he has been helping me to know and share his love increasingly and to live for his glory. Paul describes in 2 Corinthians 5 how the love of Christ compels us to live for him who died for us and was raised again: "14 For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. ... 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin [or a sin offering] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:14-15, 20-21 TNIV) Standing in this grace, we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Paul continues in Romans 5, "3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." (Romans 5:3-5 NIV) | |
