Does God Love you?
by Gary Strong
There are times when people, in their despair and confusion, question whether there is a God of love, and more particularly, taking into consideration their sins and failures, does God love them? If He is a God of love, why does He allow evil to prevail? Look at the world, all its crime and corruption. The rape, murder and torture by unrepentant tyrants. Hitler's gas chambers alone seem to cry out for an answer. There are many valid answers to those questions. I want to simply concentrate in this little article on the question: "How do I know that God loves me? Is it a myth or a reality?" If you want the very highest example of unjust suffering, caused by violence and torture against a human being, then go no further than the torture and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. After they had beaten Him with whips and thrust a crown of thorns upon His head, they callously nailed Him to the Cross. They let Him hang there in pain, hunger and loneliness. To catch the excruciating nature and length of His suffering - spiritually, mentally and physically, look at what the last hours of His life were like by reading Matthew 27:45-46, 50-51. "From the sixth hour darkness came over all the land. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabacthani?" which means, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me.?" And when Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, He gave up His Spirit. At that moment the curtain of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom." The cry that Jesus gave was one sentence: "Tetelestai" - "It is finished!" John 19:30.

Does God love you? Gary Strong
The great transaction is done! The ransom for our sin was paid for in His blood. For all time and all mankind, Jesus opened the way beyond the Curtain into the most Holy Presence and Love of God. Prior to Jesus' death, only the High priest could go into the Most Holy Place. When the curtain of the Temple was torn in two, the love of God was laid bare for the entire world to see. God's own Son revealed the immense nature of the Father's love. On the Cross Jesus removed the veil from the face of God. When we see Jesus, we see God! Jesus said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father." What more could God have done to make His love known! If you will not be convinced by the death of Jesus on the Cross, what else could convince you that God really does love you? I bid you to go to a quiet place, where you can be alone with God. Use the great gift of your mind to picture Jesus on the Cross. Read carefully the passages of the Crucifixion and see Him in His awesome love and sacrifice for you! Then you could find the love of God flowing into your heart through the presence of the Holy Spirit. "God so loved the world, that He gave His One and Only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16. With all our confusions about the love of God, take hold of this: His love is eternally yours and mine if we will but take hold of it by faith. That is what God offers you! The choice is yours. Many and without number are the doubts of believing Christians but the unfathomable nature of the love of God, revealed in Christ, answers them all! |
