Green Christianity Eric Lucan
Green is in. While walking through Costco, I noticed that paper plates were being advertised as 100% biodegradable in home composting. A moment later, I was sold on some laundry detergent that was safer on the environment and even costs less than the usual Tide that I purchase. Words like sustainability, eco-friendly, and hybrid are becoming a part of everyday vocabulary. Even this past weekend, the Marin County Fair had record crowds and revenues with their "going green" theme. There is a major shift that is taking place. All of this got me thinking about green Christianity. If sustainability is all about building and preserving an environment so that it can be enjoyed by future generations, how are we as Christians building and preserving the body of Christ? It can be very easy for us to get caught up with just building ourselves and not really worrying about the larger environment and those around us, but we cannot become mere consumers of the body of Christ. We must pour back into the body and the church.

Greetings in Jesus!
The Apostle Paul wrote that "the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel." Every situation, even our weaknesses can further the gospel when our hearts are surrendered to God!
This is the time for the gospel to advance in the Bay Area, and in our community. This summer, let's lift up our eyes, and look at people with the eyes of Jesus. There are lives, souls everywhere waiting to hear the good news!
Share the love of Jesus with someone. Listen to their story. Share the story of God's reality in your life. Be the light of Jesus to them. Invite them to church. The fields are ready for harvest! Let's do the work of the evangelist together!

| The Call - Washingotn DC - August 16 |
The Call is mobilizing people from all across America to gather together to petition God for His undeserved mercy for our nation in 12-hour solemn assemblies. Just as in the days of Joel, it is time to blow the trumpet across our land, to fast, to pray and return to the Lord with all our hearts.

Green Christianity
Eric Lucan
In the book of Haggai, the people had returned to Jerusalem from exile and Haggai encouraged them to go up into the mountains and bring back wood for the temple: Haggai 1:7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD. 9 "You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house. 10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. 11 I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands." The people were content with building their own houses and in doing so they used all of the wood and timber in the low lying areas for themselves, while the temple lay in ruins. They thought they were helping themselves, but it actually resulted in a drought in the land that affected everyone. As Haggai instructed, we must give careful thought to our own ways. Are we building ourselves or are we building the kingdom? I invite you to attend our Sunday evening service at 6pm on July 13, and I will continue this message on Green Christianity. | |
