Oh, beautiful, for spacious skies Linda Freeman Kingdom Writers
A few weeks ago, I had the wonderful experience of standing in front of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. I was surprised at how overwhelmed I felt by this symbol of freedom and its representation of the astounding exploits and adventures of our founders to establish the most radical form of democratic government the world has ever seen.
I had my own adventures after leaving Philadelphia. My east coast cousin and I drove back together from Philly to Novato. On the way, we outran two tornadoes, the Midwest flooding, and a hail storm on the northern plains. We picked up the trail of explorers Lewis & Clark in South Dakota, and read about the perils they faced blazing a trail west. We continued our journey, marveling at the Badlands and standing in awe of Mount Rushmore.
I wish every American could visit Mount Rushmore. The four U.S. presidents carved in stone there - Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt - were bold, brilliant, courageous men way ahead of their times. A video presentation described their accomplishments. It was staggering to comprehend the impact of their visions and actions. As night fell and floodlights lit the monumental sculptures, my eyes filled with tears of gratitude for God's call of destiny on their lives.
I grew up a patriot, raised on US Army posts by an American hero father who served 32 years in the military, to include landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day. My dad retired as a full Colonel. He was buried near his father in Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors that included a 21-gun salute, caisson, and riderless horse.

Greetings in Jesus!
The Apostle Paul wrote that "the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel." Every situation, even our weaknesses can further the gospel when our hearts are surrendered to God!
This is the time for the gospel to advance in the Bay Area, and in our community. This summer, let's lift up our eyes, and look at people with the eyes of Jesus. There are lives, souls everywhere waiting to hear the good news!
Share the love of Jesus with someone. Listen to their story. Share the story of God's reality in your life. Be the light of Jesus to them. Invite them to church. The fields are ready for harvest! Let's do the work of the evangelist together!

| The Call - Washingotn DC - August 16 |
The Call is mobilizing people from all across America to gather together to petition God for His undeserved mercy for our nation in 12-hour solemn assemblies. Just as in the days of Joel, it is time to blow the trumpet across our land, to fast, to pray and return to the Lord with all our hearts.

Oh, beautiful, for spacious skies
Linda Freeman, Kingdom Writers
I fiercely loved him and have always been proud of my family's military service. My grandfather fought in World War I and the Spanish American War. My older brothers served in combat as officers in Vietnam and the Gulf War. I joined ROTC in college before deciding against a career as an Army officer. I did pursue a career in journalism and even that was about "truth, justice and the American way." But as I stood in the shadow of Mount Rushmore a few weeks ago, I realized my heart had grown cold toward my country. Who among us has not felt disillusioned or disappointed in recent years by the increasing challenges we face as citizens and as a nation? It seems we only hear criticism of our leaders, our nation, and our people these days. I suddenly realized the toll this taken on my sense of patriotism. I asked God to help change my heart. I wanted to fall in love with my country again. Next we drove across Wyoming and Montana. The sky was so big, blue, and limitless, it was visually overwhelming. Breathtaking. Exhilerating. Liberating. Oh, Beautiful! For Spacious Skies! Whoever wrote those words had seen this sky. It represented the unlimited horizons and possibilities for which millions of people have risked it all. I couldn't help falling in love with the sheer beauty of what we saw. But it was seeing the people who live across the country that changed my heart. I saw families enjoying life together. People everywhere were open, polite, friendly, and generous. Children looked happy and spoke with respect. It was OK to talk about God. I was reminded that Americans can be kind and generous, lovers of God and each other. America! America! God shed His grace on Thee! And crown Thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea! This 4th of July, I will once again be celebrating our nation's independence and freedom with my whole heart. I pray you will, too.
