No Personal Space
Isaac Munene
Personal space is that invisible boundary around an individual that people are not allowed beyond, our comfort level. When one's personal space is invaded they begin to feel uncomfortable. Different cultures have different standards of this but the exception to the rule is family members and loved ones. We all have a place where we flourish in close and loving relationships. I have been meditating on the relationship God had with Moses and how attractive it is to have a relationship where we speak face to face with God.

| No Personal Space
Isaac Munene
In Numbers 12: 6 He said, "Listen to my words: When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. 7 But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. 8 With him I speak face to face" (MSG - Intimately), "clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD." (NIV) It is great to have visions and dreams from God but face to face is even better, as it is such an open relationship where intimacy with God flourishes. When we long to have intimacy with someone, we allow them into our personal space. Moses did exactly this and he not only got to SPEAK with God face to face, but he got to HEAR Him clearly and SEE His form. I see how Joshua ended up lingering outside the tent where Moses met with God; he wanted and desired to have what Moses had. I can almost hear Joshua asking: If it is this good just hanging around outside the tent, how much better is it in there when God is present? What is it like to speak face to face with God? What is it like to hear Him in open speech and not in riddles? What does God's form look like? Yet Joshua did not go in. Why not? What stopped him? And there were those who maintained an even larger personal space by remaining in their own tents, Exodus 33: 7 - 11. There is such a longing for that intimate relationship with God. I want Him as close to me as possible, with His cheek next to mine and my ear next to His heart, where I can hear every heart beat, with every desire that He has becoming mine, to the point that our hearts beat together. Jesus prayed for us saying: John 17:21 - that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (NIV) At the end of the day, God wants intimacy with us and our intimacy with Him draws others to himself. Do you want to maintain your personal space, or do you want to enjoy amazing intimacy with God and fulfill His ultimate desire? Come a little closer it is all yours! | |
