The Signature of God

As the bidding climbed higher and higher, I leaned over and asked the man who was bidding on the vase what the big deal was about this vase. With his bid card raised the entire time, he said, "During the preview before the auction, I went over to this vase and looked underneath it. There was a piece of felt attached to the bottom of it for protection. I scratched it off a little and read the signature engraved on the bottom. The signature was engraved by one of the most high-end pottery artists today, so the condition of the vase doesn't matter. All that really matters is the signature on the bottom of the vase. This vase is worth far more than what we will buy it for at this auction." I asked him, "Even with a crack in the vase?" He said, "Even with a crack in it!" The bidding began to slow down and the older man, Pierre, won the bidding on the vase for $15,000.00. The entire audience was amazed!

I went back to my desk pondering the small, green, ugly vase that we overlooked. We had no idea of its value. It is like that song, "The Touch of the Master's Hand". I began to think of my life and how God has put us on His potter's wheel to mold and shape us. Sometimes we get put on the Potter's wheel, but we're  cracked and chipped from this world. God can fix anything and anyone! It doesn't matter what problems you may have as long as you allow the Master Craftsman (Jesus) to mold and shape you and put his signature on your life!  His signature is the most valuable! Jeremiah 18 (NIV)  -So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.  5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

I began to look around me and see things differently. I realized how amazing He is and what an amazing artist He really is. Lord, have your way with your earthenware vessel! Oh how I love your signature on my life!

The Signature of God

I work at my dad's auction house in Petaluma, and we just had a live auction last Saturday. There were a lot of antique dealers who were attending this specific auction. Everything seemed normal that morning as the streams of people were pouring in through the auction doors, registering for a bid card and finding their seats before the auction started. My dad started off auctioning the first section of furniture and collectibles that do not have as much value as the items we sell at the middle of the day.

We were a few minutes into the auction, and I was working at my desk nearby. I overheard my dad auctioneering this green, ugly, cracked earthenware vase. He started the bidding at $50.00. "Would you give me $50.00 for this vase?" He almost lowered the starting bid to $35 until an old antique dealer named Pierre raised his bid card and said, "$50!" Another man across the room said "$100!" and my dad continued auctioning this ugly vase with a crack in it all the way up to $1,000!  When he reached about $3,000 and the bidding between these 2 men was continuing further, I jumped up from my desk to see what it was all about. We had sold high-end pottery before, but not at the beginning of the auction. This was crazy! The crowd was literally stunned!
