Introduction to Syndromic Surveillance for Clinicians/Public Health Practitioners

The International Society for Disease Surveillance (ISDS), in partnership with NACCHO, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Tufts Health Care Institute, have created a free online course in syndromic surveillance. This program is designed to increase knowledge and foster collaboration between public health and clinical practitioners new to syndromic surveillance.

2012 Model Practice Submissions
NACCHO will accept model practice applications October 10 through November 11, 2011. Since 2003, NACCHO's Model Practice Awards program has honored innovative LHD programs. If you have any questions concerning the Model Practice program please e-mail practices@naccho.org  and a member of NACCHO membership team will respond. Become an ACHIEVE Community

During the week of October 3, NACCHO will release a request for applications for ACHIEVE (Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental changE). The 2012 ACHIEVE initiative will include an emphasis on peer mentoring. Three new communities (mentees) and three current ACHIEVE communities (mentors) will be selected, for a total of six funded communities. Both potential applicants must submit a joint application. Public health professionals are invited to provide feedback on BioSense 2.0, to help inform redesign efforts. BioSense 2.0 is expected to be released November 15, 2011. Learn more.  

 

October 5 is Orange Nose Day 

Orange Nose Day, October 5, is a celebration of the top five steps to good health. Health care professionals and others can participate by wearing an orange foam clown nose, sharing the five steps of disease prevention through various activities, and disseminating educational tips to everyone they encounter throughout the day. RWJF Seeks Nominees for Community Health Leaders Award  

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) will select 10 individuals each year to receive the Community Health Leaders award, which includes national recognition, opportunities to network and collaborate with fellow health leaders around the country, and $125,000 to support the leader's work.
