Dear Community Member,
It is with great excitement that I write to you today.
As you might be aware, the Paterson Public Schools
System and the Paterson community as a whole was blessed
with the arrival of our new Superintendent of Schools,
Dr. Donnie Evans.
After reading about his achievements and educational
background, as well as personally interacting with Dr.
Evans, I truly believe that his eagerness to learn,
motivation to succeed, and his ability to stimulate and
motivate others towards personal growth and achievement
will be the catalyst that will transform the Paterson
Public Schools System into “the statewide leader in
urban education.”
Dr. Evans has brought a breath of fresh air and hope to
the students, parents and staff members of our school
district. He has developed a strategic plan - based on
best practices and sound research - to increase academic
achievement in our schools and “to prepare each student
to be successful in the institution of higher education
of their choosing and in their chosen profession.” It is
important to note that for the first time in the history
of our school district, the focus is on long-term
success which has been clearly defined as the
achievement of a higher education for all students. This
is an expectation that will move the school district and
the city towards achieving long-term success. A college
education is the minimum requirement for achieving
financial independence and the American dream that we
all strive for.
Currently, Dr. Evans is holding a series of community
meetings in order to open the channels of communication
between his office and the Paterson Community as a
whole. He honestly wants to know where the system has
collapsed and is failing our students, our city, our
state and our country in order to correct the problem;
and thus make us a stronger city, a stronger state and a
stronger country – a country that will be able, not only
to compete in the global market, but thrive in it.
I would like to ask you to please join us at Dr. Evans’
Community Meeting in the 5th Ward.
Location: Eastside High School – 150 Park Avenue,
Paterson NJ
When: Monday, November 2, 2009 - 7:00PM – 8:30PM
If you are a parent of student in the school system, YOU
MUST attend this meeting. But, if you are not, come and
let us know what you think should be done to make our
school district better – come and let us know how we can
make the system better TOGETHER.
Let’s make it Happen!
Hon. Julio Tavarez, M.P.A.
