Go With The Flow

Frozen Pipes

Water TapGreater Cleveland's winter climate is especially vulnerable to frozen pipes because we tend to have plumbing in exterior walls, attics, crawl spaces and other unheated or unprotected areas.  Play it safe and follow these Institute for Business and Hope Safety tips for keeping water pipes warm and cozy:

          • Wrap pipes with foam or fiberglass insulation.
          • Seal openings in exterior walls where cold air can get to unprotected pipes.
          • Disconnect garden hoses and place insulated covers over outdoor faucets.

Can Seller Change Their Street Name?
Boulevard - Lane - Court - Road
It seems home buyers are picky when choosing their next residence and having the right street name can help.

A new survey suggests subtle differences in street names - such as whether a street name ends in the word "Lane" or "Park" - can make a big difference in the asking price.

Radon in NE Ohio
Yes, it is real

So often we are asked the question, do I really need to test for Radon?  The answer is simply "yes".  The EPA recommends that 4pCi/L or higher concentrations of radon are considered to be above the safe level.
Five of our past 10 radon tests have exceed the 4pCi/L  level.   In fact, one of the tests actually averaged 8.5 -- more than double the safe level!

The good news -- reducing radon levels in a home is not an extremely expensive undertaking.

Home Inspection Nightmares!
What -- No Coffee Pot?
Home Inspection Nighmare During this inspection, found two outlets above the sink (not GFI). Below the sink, I found six outlets (not GFI) for a grand total of eight non-GFI outlets. The hair dryer had a GFI at the plug. And, then there is the issue of the duct-taped drain.
