Awesome Man Caves

Take a look inside a man's man cave -- and prepare to catch a glimpse into his soul. Whether it's a home theater heaven, a paradise for poker playing or safe haven for his kegerator, the man cave is a place where a guy can be exactly who he is.

Tips & Tricks

Insurance

If you bundle your homeowner's, auto and liability coverage into a package with the same you company, you may save 5 - 15% of the cost of separate policies.

Oven Disasters

Tackle spilled food in the oven immediately by pouring table salt over it.  The salt will form a crust that makes the food easy to wipe up and reduces the burning smell.

The "Honey-Do" List
Short List in order to enjoy the Holidays
  • Install at least one Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm near sleeping areas.  CO is a deadly gas that you cannot see, smell or taste.
  • If your smoke alarm is more than 10 years old, get a new one.
  • Open flues before fireplaces are use and use sturdy screens or glass doors to keep embers from escaping.
  • Do not burn cardboard boxes or wrapping paper because they may contain poisons or cause a home fire.

Home Inspection Nightmares!

Hi Rise Hot Tub

Hi Rise Hot TubRecipe for disaster: Start with a vacation rental, add 2 margaritas, a bit of dark nighttime and a deck built without adult supervision. Pop it into the hospital for 2 years.

Foundation Basics

What do footing and drain tiles look like?

The foundation supplies the base for your entire home and transmits the load of the structure to the supporting soil.  It consists of a footing that supports a load-bearing wall (basement wall) and a concrete slab. Because the foundation and basement are surrounded by soil, water can leak or seep into the home through cracks or holes, or through mortar between concrete blocks.

Besides problems with moisture, you might find that your foundation/basement system settles or allows radon gas to penetrate.
