Lehigh Valley Health Network nurses go lean
An online article in American Nurse Today, describes how Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) in eastern Pennsylvania, is working to implement Lean. LVHN calls their approach the "System for Partners in Performance Improvement (SPPI)". The goal of the organization is to discover more efficient ways to provide health care by using lean tools and concepts that reduce waste and repetition. The article provides a detailed description of the five-day rapid improvement event process in use at LVHN.

Reducing length of stay using service line lean concepts

Steve consistently volunteers his time to SHS in many ways. He was an integral decision-maker on the Board Nominating Committee, specifically supporting the nomination effort as we identified a great slate of Board of Director Candidates.
As a past SHS President, Steve continues to be a strong supporter of SHS and has been consistent in promotion of the Society to those professionals who use industrial and management engineering expertise for productivity and quality improvement in the health care industry. In addition, he regularly presents as a subject matter expert at the SHS Annual Conference and volunteers as a student mentor to provide guidance to the next generation of members.
