Conferences & Trade Shows

Spring is finally here, and with the warmer weather (hopefully), everyone is starting to get invites to trade shows and conferences. A quick rundown for me includes the IIE Regional (March) and National (May) conferences, a material handling show in Chicago in March, two logistics shows (Orlando and Baltimore). Heck, I even got one for this year's packaging show in Las Vegas for September! Needless to say, most of these are in fun, exciting cities where you'd love to travel to and explore. The conference centers are well equipped, and well suited for making you feel at home. The hard part for many is justifying to their bosses the cost of attendance.

So what do you get out of these conferences & trade shows? There are three main benefits...

Jobs, jobs, jobs!

I noted in the last several month's newsletter that the IIE website has an extensive job board, which is updated daily with IE specific positions throughout the Northeast. These positions range from entry level to CEO, and are located in just about every state(from Delaware to New Hampshire, Maine to Pennsylvania).

As of Feb. 22, these states had the following number of open positions sent to IIE:

Delaware - 1
New Jersey - 15
New York - 46
Pennsylvania - 28
Massachusetts - 21
Connecticut -24
Rhode Island - 0
Maine - 1
Vermont - 2
New Hampshire - 6

The website also had roughly five times that many job postings that it aggregated from other search engines.

Take advantage of this opportunity, or let your peers know. Also make sure you stay in touch with your local chapter, as they may have additional postings. IIE Career Center
