Hospital-based physician clinic planning template 

Anyone that has ever opened a new hospital based clinic recognizes that there are hundreds of tasks and details that need to be completed in order to open the doors. Garrett Bean, a management engineer at McKay-Dee Hospital Center, recently assisted in the planning and development of a hospital based wound and hyperbaric clinic and developed a generic clinic planning template that is adaptable for use in other organizations and for other clinic types. Texas Tech industrial engineering researchers reduce ED waits and discharge delays at Odessa's Medical Center Hospital


Associate industrial engineering professors, Jennifer Harris and Tim Matis, teamed up with senior nursing leadership to apply industrial engineering principles in improving patient flow at Odessa's Medical Center Hospital in Texas. According to the Texas Tech Today website, the first two improvement efforts have saved the hospital over $250,000 with additional work to follow. Hospitalists go lean

The online publication, The Hospitalist, published by the Society of Hospital Medicine, recently featured an article on how hospitalists in several organizations are adopting Lean methods to improve quality and reduce waste and delays in delivering improved care. The hospitals include the University of Michigan, LeBonheur Children's Medical Center, St. Joseph Mercy, and Denver Health. Doug Kramer and Kartik Bharat of Premier Inc. describe how they approached reducing hospital labor expenses at the 588-bed Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. They considered a variety of methods to minimize labor expense including agency use, premium pay, and shift auctions. Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital wins Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downer's Grove, Illinois recently received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The award is managed by the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) and is awarded to recipients that achieve a high level of performance in quality, improvement, financial performance, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement. The NIST website cites a number of improvements the hospital achieved in their award winning journey. To find out more about Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and the Baldrige Award, click here.

Hospital emergency room wait times on the Web and billboards
