Message from the region vice president
Kevin Drevik
United we rise, divided we fall
It's November, and numerous student and professional chapters will be having joint meetings this month. The objectives appear to be:

-Outreach by the professional chapter to the student leadership

-Outreach by the student leadership to incoming freshmen & sophomores on the benefits of the IE program
-A sharing of knowledge, especially with the students

At the same time, in our recent conference call, I listened to several student chapters asking for assistance and guidance. Often the new student leadership hasn't had the opportunity to coordinate with the outgoing class - resulting in lessons having to be learned all over again on chapter reporting requirements, budgeting, etc. More from RVP

First Northeast Region Webinar is a success!

With 116 attendees, the Northeast Region webinar, "Model-based Decision Support: Taking Simulation to the Next Level" held on Oct. 20, 2010 was a huge success.  Presenter Dennis Pegden, founder and CEO of Simio, discussed Model-Based Decision Support(MBDS) and how it can be used to improve system performance by providing forward visibility into the detailed operations of the system.

 Jobs, jobs, jobs!
I noted in the last several month's newsletter that the IIE website has an extensive job board, which is updated daily with IE specific positions throughout the Northeast.  These positions range from entry level to CEO, and are located in just about every state(from Delaware to New Hampshire, Maine to Pennsylvania).

As of September 30th, these states had the following number of open positions sent to IIE:

Delaware - 5
New Jersey - 20
New York - 28
Pennsylvania - 29
Massachusetts - 27
Connecticut -34
Rhode Island - 3
Maine - 2
Vermont - 3
New Hampshire - 2

The website also had roughly 5x that many job postings that it aggregated from other search engines.

Take advantage of this opportunity, or let your peers know. Also make sure you stay in touch with your local chapter, as they may have additional postings. IIE Career Center
