Effects of Trends and technology

Each generation usually has a time of musing about how fast things are changing, how their generation has to cope with changes and speed of change that the previous generations did not have to face, and how they sometimes long for simpler times (read as when they were younger). Each generation does this, and each generation is correct. The speed of change is increasing, and as noted in a previous Newsletter, sometimes seems to resemble the Doppler Effect. Full article
Of Tuxedos, Brown Shoes, and IE Generations

During the Johnny Carson years of the Tonight Show, one of his guests was the old comic, "Lonesome George" Gobel.  Gobel's comedy was usually wry and dry, but usually hit close to the mark. In one particular guest shot, Carson asked Gobel how things were going. Lonesome George's reply was "Did you ever feel like the whole world was a tuxedo, and you were a pair of brown shoes?"

Working in any organization today, no matter your age, gender, experience, etc., you run the risk of being the pair of brown shoes. The workers in your organization have vocabulary differences, basic skills differences, technology knowledge and use differences, social manners and customs differences, and differences in surroundings and home lives. Complete article
Reshoring - Watch For It

For many years, the news media and many professional and trade publications have covered the effects of offshoring production; thus, jobs, from the U.S. to various other countries. Region News

Greater Kansas City Chapter 92
The Greater Kansas City Chapter is forging ahead with their planned meetings and activities for the remainder of 2009, while dealing with some good news and the associated challenges. Their president, Jairo de Jesus, accepted a promotion to a plant manager position and that is very good news for him. Unfortunately, the new position is in Atlanta, which is not in Region 5. That was potentially bad news for the chapter, but their depth of talent and willingness is such that Kyle Graybill has taken over as president and has amassed a good slate of officers supporting his efforts. Thus, they have stayed on track with the following meetings and events. September event summary and upcoming October Events
