Letter to Membership |
|
Pierce Story
The past year has flown by. It seems like only yesterday when I humbly accepted the responsibility of President of this Society. Now, after fourteen months, it seems like we are only getting started! As I look back to where the Society was in 2008, I am pleased to see significant progress in the many focus areas which matter most to our membership. I have been blessed with an outstanding group of Board Members and Volunteers who made the work of President rather easy. With their activity, enthusiasm, drive, and dedication to the industry and the constituents they serve, it would be difficult to have had a bad tenure. I am both humbled and constantly rejuvenated by what this small group has been able to achieve for the greater good of the Society and the health care industry. more of letter |

SHS and ASQ Announce Joint Conference |
|
Alliance Aims to Build Better Health Care Delivery Systems
The Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) and its Society for Health Systems (SHS), and ASQ's (American Society for Quality) Healthcare and Quality Management divisions, will launch a joint conference focused on health care quality and process improvement. The new joint conference will be held February 25-28, 2010, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The conference will bring together health care quality professionals, performance improvement specialists and other health care professionals involved with or interested in developing the quality and operations improvement skills and knowledge needed to successfully manage complex health care environments.
"This is a tremendous advancement for the industry and a great opportunity for the members of both societies," said Pierce Story, president of SHS and managing director at Jumbee, Inc. "This powerful alliance will foster and strengthen the natural synergies between performance improvement and quality management, thus enabling a more effective and efficient health care system." He shares it voluntarily for the SHS membership, and we thank him for this invaluable contribution. The list can be downloaded via this link. It is sorted alphabetically by title within categories. Naturally, SHS envisions the list growing over time, with input from the entire SHS membership. Please submit your thoughts, reviews, or any additions to Ron McDade. Enjoy! |

Review of a Radical Plan to Revamp Health Care |
|
by Aaron Kanne
The Article: "CEO Proposes A Radical Plan to Revamp the Healthcare System"
The Review: Will radical improvement to US Healthcare require drastic changes to payment stucture? In a recent article by Rick Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Jackson Healthcare, commonly held beliefs regarding the structure of payment for health care were challenged and a new possible solution was proposed.
Jackson Healthcare is the parent company of a handful of companies such as LocumTenens.com, a full service temporary physician staffing agency, and StatCom, a supplier of patient flow logistics software. Jackson has developed more than 25 healthcare-related companies over the past 30 years, and he is now using this experience to express a possible "way out" for the American health care system. | |
