USITT Follow-up
|
 | | Bill and Kazumi |
I had a terrific time at the USITT Conference in Charlotte this year. My thanks to everyone who stopped by to visit us. There were lots of harness fittings and the ProPlus Rescue System was extremely well received. I wasn't in the booth as much as I would have liked due to my meeting and panel commitments, but Ildelis Cruz, Chris Harris and special guest Carla Richters handled the throngs in good form. I was particularly happy to be able to offer a harness to an old friend, Kazumi Satomura, from Japan who has been visiting us for years.

The Stump the Rigger panel was also good fun. A good sized crowd came prepared with lots of questions. Michael Katz even made it a class assignment for his students at MIT. The winning question came from Lauren Lanzotti and Mary Lehner from Hamilton College in upstate New York. Their question involved rigging a piece of scenery, a 28' tall ship's mast to be exact, that had to stand at a steep angle on a turntable and revolve with the turntable. Complicating the situation was the fact that the mast did not sit centered on the turntable but offset from center by about 45°. Gwen Suesse was on hand to help us pick the winner.
The Long Reach Long Rider/Behind the Scenes charity raffle was terrific. We raffled off some great prizes and, in something new this year, I auctioned off Cirque Du Soleil tickets to Elvis and a DMX/RDM Coffee Pot by Doug Fleenor Design. All in all a great time was had by all and we raised over $6,400.00 for Behind the Scenes.
