LDI is coming up next week and Sapsis Rigging Inc will be there in force. If you are going to the show please come visit us at booth # 1428. We'll be showing our Focus Track and our full line of ProPlus Fall Protection equipment. We'll also be showing our brand new ProPlus Rescue System. We've worked on designing the System to allow you to rescue a fallen co-worker from the high steel, a grid, truss or catwalk. We'll be holding rescue demonstrations periodically during the show. So please stop by Booth # 1428 and see what's new from SRI. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
PLASA International Report by Bill Sapsis
In September I was invited to speak at the inaugural PLASA International Rigging Conference. It was a two day event that that ran concurrently with the PLASA Trade Show in London. Over 200 people attended the event, more than half of them from outside the UK. I enjoyed the sessions and the inevitable discussions that take place at this sort of thing. The room was full of riggers, after all, so of course, everyone had an opinion. Alan Jacobi gave the keynote address and served as the master of ceremonies. Alan is quite a character. He freely admits he's been around for a long time and has seen it all. His stories made for very interesting, and amusing, listening.
Cristiano Giavedoni, gave a terrific talk on what it's like to tour in Europe. His good friend Mario (a fictional head rigger from Italy) lead us on a powerpoint trip through a number of European countries where he encountered a dizzying array of rules and regulations. Each country seemed to have it's own way of doing things. It was interesting, informative and hilarious.
Chris Higgs, UK rigger and author, put the conference together along with help from Nicky Rowland, Director of Events for PLASA Events Ltd, Jane Monk, Conference Organizer and Louise Kiwanuka who took over as Operations Manager when Sophie Atkinson went on maternity leave. They did an excellent job. They made sure the speakers and panelists came prepared, the sessions moved along well and, most importantly, that the food was on time. I applaud their efforts and look forward to doing it again next year.
