Greetings
Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Romans 12: 13
Hospitality and welcome are essential attributes for those who follow Jesus Christ. In his letter to the church at Rome, Paul reminds the gathered community that we should share our resources with those in need and we should always practice hospitality and welcome. Throughout the Scriptures, you will find numerous references to Biblical hospitality. We are to proclaim a WIDE welcome to all people--offering lavish hospitality to everyone we encounter.
It was because of amazing hospitality that I became a United Methodist Christian. During my sophomore year in college, I was struggling - feeling lonely and disconnected. I longed for a place to belong and to grow in faith. One Sunday, a group of United Methodist college students and two adult teachers invited me to become involved at Saint John's UMC. Over the next weeks, they invited me to meals, to Bible study, to a small group, and to worship. It was refreshing for people to really care and to invest in my life. I experienced hospitality in abundant ways and my life was forever changed. It happened because I was invited....because I was welcomed...because someone practiced hospitality.
This Sunday is Welcome Back Sunday! It will be a great day of celebrating our ministry and mission as a congregation. More importantly, it could be a day for you to invite your neighbor or friend to attend church with you. You could even pick them up! This could be the Sunday you introduce yourself to new people during worship or over a handshake to those around you.
Practice hospitality----it could change your life! It could change their life!
