 Last week, I joined 24 other youth and 8 adults on the two-day drive to Vandemere, North Carolina for the youth mission trip. The drive was long but fun, as one could imagine with ten youth packed in each 15 passenger vehicle. With about an hour left in the drive, we met up with the Dolsaks, who were old friends for me and many of the others, for dinner before completing our journey. We were assigned two worksites on Monday morning and a third halfway through the week. I spent most of the week at Miss Geneva's house putting in laminate flooring and window frames.
I witnessed a transformation in Miss Geneva's house. When we got there it looked empty and definitely like a work-in-progress. But when we left, there were floors, doors, and no gaps between the windows and the wall. Miss Geneva saw it too. At the end of our last full day there she gave something to us. She told us we were the first group to give her hope that she would be able to move back into her house. That really touched me, because it was the moment I knew we had made a difference. The moment I knew we had accomplished what we'd driven two days to do--to not only rebuild people's houses, but their lives and faith. The moment I knew my last mission trip had been successful.
None of it would've happened without all the shareholders who helped us get down there, and I know I speak for the rest of the team as well when I say how truly grateful I am for your support.

WELCOME BACK SUNDAY IS
SEPTEMBER 9, 2012
Mark your calendars now for WELCOME BACK SUNDAY on
September 9, 2012. Join us for this church-wide celebration which will occur in both the 9:00am and 10:30am services. There will be a great fellowship time between services and a church-wide potluck after the 10:30am worship service. We are asking each child and youth to wear their new backpack so we can bless backpacks. We are also asking for donations of new backpacks for school children in Chicago. They will be distributed through Humboldt Park UMC in Chicago. We will also bless school teachers and school workers during both services as well as recognize our outstanding church staff. We will also be participating indirectly with the United Methodist Seeds to Success witness (for more information, please visit www.seedstosucceed.org).. Watch for more information....

Shareholders Dinner
August 12, 2012 at 4:00 pm
The 2012 Senior High Mission Team is in Vandemere, NC. We are repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Irene in August of 2011. Our work may include siding, roofing, flooring, drywall, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and more.
It is not too late to support the team and reserve your seat at the Shareholders dinner.
Purchase a trip share for $25 and attend the Shareholders dinner. Feast on Neil Baltz's delicious barbeque chicken, enjoy lots of yummy homemade salads and desserts, and hear testimonies from the youth's perspective, about how this trip impacted their life.
Thank you for supporting our youth in mission. Please continue to pray for the team. We arrive back at Kingswood on Sunday Aug. 5, 2012.

Food Pantry Renewal and Food Drive

Hello, my name is Steven Macenski, a member of Troop 401 here at Kingswood. As part of my Food Pantry renewal Eagle Scout Project, I am running a food drive from August 12 - 20, 2012 with collection bins at Kingswood, Camelot Pool, The Continental Restaurant, Dengeos and Indian Trails Library. I would appreciate it if everyone would bring a can or two to one of these locations in the up-coming week.

Missed the Last Feed My Starving Children Food Packing Event?
Well here is another opportunity!
When: Saturday August 18
Meet Kingswood UMC at 9am, return by 11:50pm
We have reserved 25 spots for food packing at a Mobile Packing site at Paulwaukee Airport in Wheeling. Barb Symonds will be the organizer for this event; Revs. Preston and Pepper have previous commitments. This event is open to all ages with emphasis on older children and above. Drivers/chaperones needed for this event. To sign up please contact Barb Symonds by Thursday August 16. More spots may be able to be reserved if we get more than 25. Glory Fingers Kick-off Cook Out Party!
Glory Fingers Kick-Off party is Tuesday Aug. 28th from 530-730pm. All 7th graders and older are invited to join the team. Meet on the Manna House back patio. Kingswood Bake Sale Booth
at Buffalo Grove Days!

This year again the profits will go into our church budget. Everyone bakes, right? We will be selling Saturday and Sunday, September 1 and 2. Bake your favorite - or
several items. It takes a lot of baked goods to sell for 2 days. Please, no cream pies or cream cakes bacause it can be very warm and they aren't safe in the heat. There will be a sign up sheet all month for opportunities to work in the booth.
