A Word from the Pastor
Greetings!
Well, we are winding down .... or up .... toward Christmas, toward Bethlehem, following the star and hoping against hope that this year, this year, we'll be blown away by the new thing God is doing among us as we come to know God-with-us in the child born to Mary and Joseph.
Like Mary and Joseph, many of you are probably traveling in the next few days ... maybe you, too, are going to your ancestral home but you are not so much anxious that a baby will be born there as that nothing will have changed ... that the same family patterns will recur and you'll become the little child you were so long ago instead of the competent adult who has healed and created a family of your own. Or maybe you are staying at home this year ... and folks (parents/kids/grandkids) are coming to your place. Is there room in your inn, your heart, for the gifts/newness they bring? Or perhaps, you don't have places to go, people to see, visitors coming ... maybe Christmas is sad for you because the days of hustle and bustle are history.
I must admit that I always approach Christmas with a mixture of feelings .... some anticipation, some sadness, some hope, some fear. We all want the Christmas shown on the cards, and in the ads, and in the movies. But what is more true is that our mixture of anticipation, sadness, hope and fear are much more like what may have been happening in the hearts of Mary and Joseph and that it is right there, in that mix of things, that God is made known, God is with us, Emmanuel!!!
I wish for you all ... and for our world ... the peace and joy of knowing God's love and grace in this season and in all the seasons of your lives.
Blessings on all as we move toward Bethlehem!!!!
Rev. Margaret Gramley

Many Thanks!
THANKS TO ALL who brought Gifts for "All God's Children" last Sunday. Gifts for 240 children ... @ $50 each ... means that in addition to your generous support of Kingswood through the budget and gifts to the Food Pantry, you've provided at least $12,000 worth of gifts to children in our community. THANK YOU especially to the Forsythe family who work together to organize this important ministry ... with Jean offering the vision and energy that makes it happen every year.

Glory Fingers NEEDS YOU!
.
Glory Fingers Creative Ministry Team is seeking new members for January - April, 2012. Everyone in 7th grade and older, (yes adults too!), is welcome to join the team. The commitment is every Tuesday night from 6:30-8:30pm and at our weekend rehearsals and presentations from January through April 2012. Come try us out, you may really love us! Glory Fingers presents our interpretation of Christian songs and skits through puppetry, sign language, interpretive movement with banners and dowels rods, and any other fun ways we dream up! No experience required, just a desire to share God's love through the creative arts. We will train you based on your gifts, talents and desire to learn. Email sheribrubeck@comcast.net for our 2012 calendar and any questions. We hope that you'll love our ministry so much that you'll want to come back in the fall! KUMC Book Club
January Meeting
The next meeting of the KUMC book club will be on Friday, January 20 at 7 pm at Panera Bread, Strathmore Center, 1228 West Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove. The book club will discuss "The Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkenson.

In this epic, beautifully written masterwork, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life. From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.
