There were no grinches among us ... though the Kingswood staff encountered a few of the originals ... on our visit to the Seuss exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry on Tuesday.  Under the delightful guidance of Kingswood member Bill Dreyer, who also happens to be the curator of the Dr. Seuss collection at ChaseArt, we learned of the process Ted Geisel used to create his original children's books and saw samples of his early drawings for advertising.  We also learned that he was quite an artist .... with a separate room for his paintings, behind a hidden door in his home in Palo Alto, CA.  Bill's work at ChaseArt involves working with various institutions and galleries around the country in setting up exhibitions of Ted Geisel's art ... which we mostly know as Dr. Seuss stories and drawings ... and Chicago is blessed this season with this exhibit at the Museum.

Thank you, Bill, for a great day and for energy and love you have for this story.

With gratitude,

Margaret Gramley

Annual Cookie Walk

Back by popular demand, the Annual Cookie Walk will be held in the activity center on Sunday December the 11th between services. We will be in need of all sorts of Christmas cookies so we are asking all those bakers men, women, and even some of our talented youth to pitch in and donate a large batch (6 dozen preferably) of their favorite Christmas cookies.   We have always had a great turnout for this event and we hope that this year will be no exception.

Volunteers will be needed to package and arrange cookies on the Saturday December 10th from 9:30 A.M. to about Noon. We will also need volunteers to handle cookies on Sunday, collect the money and of course help with the cleanup.

If cookies could be delivered to the big kitchen by Saturday morning that would be helpful but we will be glad to take them on Sunday morning. Questions, please email jaybeth76@yahoo.com.

Glory Fingers NEEDS YOU!

.

Glory Fingers Creative Ministry Team is seeking new members for January - April, 2012.  Everyone in 7th grade and older, (yes adults too!), is welcome to join the team.  The commitment is every Tuesday night from 6:30-8:30pm and at our weekend rehearsals and presentations from January through April 2012. Come try us out, you may really love us!  Glory Fingers presents our interpretation of Christian songs and skits through puppetry, sign language, interpretive movement with banners and dowels rods, and any other fun ways we dream up! No experience required, just a desire to share God's love through the creative arts. We will train you based on your gifts, talents and desire to learn.
Email
sheribrubeck@comcast.net for our 2012 calendar and any questions. We hope that you'll love our ministry so much that you'll want to come back in the fall! Please RSVP to Sheri by Jan. 1, 2012.

Gifts for "All God's Children" should be brought to church this Sunday, December 11.  Please bring the gifts to the Nursery.

KUMC Book Club

January Meeting

The next meeting of the  KUMC book club will be on Friday, January  20  at 7 pm  at Panera Bread, Strathmore Center, 1228 West Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove.  The book club will discuss "The Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkenson.

In this epic, beautifully written masterwork, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life. From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.
