Practicing Extravagant Generosity:
Daily Readings on the Grace of Giving
October 29, 2011

Greetings!

John Gates

Acts 20:24 What matters most to me is to finish what God started: the job the Master Jesus gave me of letting everyone I meet know all about the incredibly extravagant generosity of God.

One of the things I have learned during my spiritual journey is that God is extravagantly generous. He often does not give what we ask for. Is the Chicago Bears being able to protect Jay Cutler really too much to ask? He does, however, always give us what we need, in abundance; even if we are not aware we need it or do not appreciate it at the time.

Some examples of God's generosity that I experienced: Wonderful parents who loved and supported me and prepared me for adult life; a great education; a way to earn a living and provide for my own family; a loving spouse without whom I would be lost; wonderful children; a church family that has helped my family and me grow spiritually.

What has God's extravagant generosity given you? Having been given such gifts, how do we fulfill "the job Master Jesus gave us of letting everyone we meet know all about the incredibly extravagant generosity of God"? I learned about God's extravagant generosity through great examples of people that give generously of their time. This lead me to strive to be generous with my time - leading Ushers, chairing the Worship committee and helping with the pumpkin patch, Harvest Fest, Auction, Rummage sale etc.

I regularly experience the generous giving of time by the Kingswood community. Whenever I am at Kingswood, the generous efforts of so many people are evident everywhere. God has been "incredibly extravagantly generous" to me. This has inspired me to use my generosity to teach others about God's generosity.
