Practicing Extravagant Generosity:
Daily Readings on the Grace of Giving

Greetings!

First Things First

Read Matthew 6:33

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things

will be given to you as well."

I grew up in a home where generosity was a value. My parents were strong role models throughout my life. They were always generous with their time, love and money not only for our family but to our church as well. My parents did not talk much about money but I knew they always gave generously to their church. They simply lived Christian lives and had a strong faith in God. God was always number one in our lives.

As an adult I tried to continue our family traditions and hold onto our Christian values. I certainly was aware of the importance of earning a living. Once my profession and family were established, I began to set priorities...food, shelter and clothing were necessities; however I also had a strong faith in God. I knew that he is the center of my life. Working hard to provide a living for my family is part of God's plan.

The problem arises when we put our hope in wealth...when we live for money instead of living through our faith in God.

As a Christian community I think that we are all in this together . We need each other to be the most successful community that God intends for us to be. Someone once said , "Joy is not in things, it is in us." If you put God first in your life then everything else will fall into place.

Prayer: Our most gracious father we thank you for all of your gifts that you so generously have given to us. Help us to always put you first in our lives. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
