Practicing Extravagant Generosity:
Daily Readings on the Grace of Giving
October 10, 2011

Greetings!

As If for the Very First Time

Philippians 4:15

..I do want you to experience the blessing that issues from generosity.

As a young college graduate and new husband, my primary focus was always that next promotion, pay raise, kids' college and retirement savings balance, etc.   With each promotion or other financial goal met, I had a certain amount of pride and satisfaction. However, with each setback or detour in my professional career, there was always stress and frustration.  Even with a comfortable home, a wonderful wife and three beautiful daughters, I couldn't shake this feeling that something was missing, so I turned to God for answers.

What I discovered was that devoting time, energy, and resources to God's work in helping others was infinitely more gratifying than any professional success I may have achieved. God helped me realize that giving truly was much more rewarding than receiving, not only at Kingswood but in every aspect of daily living.  I now try to see every day for what it is, a blessing not to be taken for granted. During those trying periods we all go through, I know that with God's strength and support, everything works out as it should.
