Practicing Extravagant Generosity:
Daily Readings on the Grace of Giving
October 9, 2011

Greetings!

Debbi Dickinson

But just as you excel in everything - in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us - see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

2 Corinthians 8:24 NIV

The Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea are made of the same water flowing down from the heights of Herman.  The Sea of Galilee has an outlet; it gets to give.  The Dead Sea with the same water is lifeless since it has no outlet; it get to keep.  And this is also true of my faith. For years I was like the Dead Sea ... I took God's gifts; but I did not give them away.  My spiritual life was stagnant.  Over time, I learned that God wants his children to live abundantly and to do so I needed to start living like the Sea of Galilee.  I discovered that the more I desired to serve others; time appeared in my schedule to serve.  The more I gave of my resources; expenses dropped or income went up.  I know today that giving is the outlet of my faith; it keeps me fresh and alive.  For in the giving God will refill my Sea with abundance.
