 Greetings! Thoughts from the Pastor
What a mighty God we serve ....
So many good things are happening at Kingswood this month, and as we prepare for the events of fall, this refrain keeps running through my head. Indeed, what a mighty and gracious and beautiful God we serve.
This week we've welcomed Luke Pepper to our staff as Minister of Adult and Youth Formation. He'll be connecting with youth and adults in the weeks ahead ... and helping us all nurture our relationship with God through learning, service, witness and mission. There will be opportunities to meet him in worship ... as well as in various meetings and gatherings in the weeks ahead.
Sunday we will dedicate the Kingswood Labyrinth during the time between services at 10am. We are grateful for those who've worked to make this beautiful resource available to us and to the community. We will remember the youth to whom it is dedicated ... Katie Traynor and Steven Taylor ... and bless it for use in the community.
On September 1, we will welcome Yang Moon Korean UMC to our space as brothers and sisters in Christ with us, reaching out to God's world in this location for the months and years ahead. Yang Moon's pastor, the Rev. Min Woo, will be introduced in worship during September and there will be opportunities for fellowship and friendship between the congregations as we seek God's path for us as God's servants and United Methodists in Buffalo Grove.
The Youth Mission Team gave a great party to celebrate and share their experience in Galveston. It is clear they had a powerful experience of service and sharing in the days they were together serving God. Look for pictures and a link to their powerpoint presentation below. Plans for Harvest Fest, for the auction, for the pumpkin sale, for learning and serving and praising God together in worship are in the works. On Labor Day weekend, worship will focus on "what work is" and we'll hear the voices of Kingswood folk reflecting on their work. Another special time will be to gather in our regular worship on the morning of September 11 .... the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks ... to remember and reflect. Though our calendars often leave us feeling overwhelmed, we remember that life is full and God is great and gracious and good!!!! Blessings!!!! Rev. Margaret Gramley |

Welcome to Luke Pepper!
Hello!!!!
My name is Luke Pepper and on Monday I joined the Kingswood staff as Minister of Adult and Youth Formation. I am excited to meet you all and I am grateful for the hospitality I have received so far. To let you know a little about myself, I grew up in the Northwest Suburbs and graduated to Fremd High School in Palatine so in many ways Buffalo Grove already feels like home. In May of this year I graduated from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston with my Masters of Divinity. Some of my main passions in ministry include teaching, missions, and social advocacy and I am currently in the candidacy process for commissioning as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. Once again I look forward to meeting you all and feel free to stop by my office and introduce yourself during the week!

Sunday August 21 at 10:00 between services

The Kingswood Labyrinth created under the direction of Tommy Gates as his Eagle Scout Project will be dedicated this Sunday between services. It was created as a memorial to youth whose life journeys were cut short. We will especially remember two youth who grew up at Kingswood; Steven Taylor and Katie Traynor who died in the past year. |

Kingswood Bake Sale
at Buffalo Grove Days
September 3 & 4

This year the profits will again go into our church budget. We need your help! We will be selling Saturday September 3 and Sunday September 4. Bake your favorite, or several items, it takes a lot of baked goods to sell for 2 days. Please, no cream pies or cakes because it can be very warm and they aren't safe in the heat.
There are also opportunities to work in the booth. The sign up sheet will be in the Fireside Room on Sundays and in the little kitchen during the week. Volunteering in the both is a great chance to extend the hospitality of Kingswood outside our doors! Any questions call Debbie Kob (847) 909-1020

"Wrecked" in Galveston
"Work Camp 'wrecked' my view of what a Christian should be. A christian shouldn't serve God the way that they think they can best serve him. Instead, they should listen to how God wants it done, because he knows all" - Tommy Gates |

Interfaith Summer Reading Group - The Faith Club

18 persons from Kingswood, Beth Am and Temple Chai gathered last week for the first of what may be a series of discussions of the book The Faith Club by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver and Priscilla Warner. We risked asking each other some hard questions and listened to hear what was hard in the asking as well as to begin answering the questions. One person asked: do you (Christians) blame us (Jews) for killing Jesus. That isn't fair!!!! Another asked, what does the crucifixion mean and if you eat the body and blood, isn't that like cannibalism? Whew!!! We discussed these last night and decided we had only begun so will gather again on August 24. Questions we've identified to discuss so far are: how do Jews in the US relate to Zionism? and what is the deal with Jews being "chosen?"
So ... if you didn't finish the book (most hadn't in the discussion last week), keep going and join the conversation on August 24 at 7pm at Beth Am.
