Kingswood Connected

June 16, 2011

Greetings!

Thoughts from the Pastor

Good enough or perfect?

I had a conversation with a friend this week about the relative merits of "good enough" vs. "perfect."  So many of us live as if perfect is the standard.  Even John Wesley's theology is focused on the disciple (and especially the pastor) "going on toward perfection."  But I don't believe God requires us to be perfect.   Instead, God requires us to show up and God is what makes our days and our work perfect.

Today as I was driving back from a hospital visit I found myself grumbling about the weather (you know, if you listen to your self-talk, you being to hear what you really believe) ... it is either too hot or to cold, too rainy or too dry, there are too many mosquitos or something else that seems to spoil a given day.  But the reality is that all of these days are given, gifts of God to us, and that they are more than good enough even when they are not perfect.

The labyrinth is well underway ... and there are 20 folk here helping make it happen.  Will it be perfect?  I doubt it.  But it is soooooo good to see young people from Troops 401 and 188, from the Gates circle of family and friends/neighbors, from Kingswood youth, from the Taylor family working together to provide a place where we can practice the way we walk with God in the spiritual practice of walking the labyrinth and lovingly remember young people we have loved and miss.

Many miracles reflect God's presence in this project:  thank you for your prayers that left the area of the labyrinth rainless yesterday when the radar showed a horseshoe of rain all around and revealed more than 40 pennies that have been found in the ground there.   (from heaven? or left over from Harvestfest games? doesn't really matter)   Indeed, it is God who gives us the gift of each day, the capacity to enjoy and work in them, and who perfects us in our life together.

Blessings!!!!  Rev. Margaret Gramley

Building has begun on the Prayer Labyrinth Project!

The construction has begun.  Tommy Gates is leading a group of Scouts, Kingswood Youth, friends, family and other volunteers in building an outdoor prayer labyrinth on the western edge of the Kingswood property.  This is his Eagle project and he has been working for several months making plans, getting approval and learning about prayer labyrinths.  If you are in the area, stop by the check on their progress.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Keisha Marie McNeil and Darren Paul Boshart on the celebration of their
