Happy St. Patrick's Day |
March 17, 2011 |
Greetings! A Word from the Pastor On Friday of last week, as word of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan came through, Rev. Safiyah Fosua, staff at the General Board of Discipleship Worship Area responded with a hymn:
Quaking earth and swirling water Highways turned to waterfalls Sweeping people houses seaward God of mercy help us all!!
Walls of water rushing eastward Leaving havoc in their wake Sirens sounding, children crying God of mercy help us all!!
When the waters have subsided When the earth stops shivering Move our hearts to offer succor God of mercy help us all.
(This may be sung to the tune of "The Servant Song," 2222, The Faith We Sing.) Karen Rogers is a teacher in Japan ... cousin of Sheri Miller. Her father has been in touch with her sporadically by cell phone and shares his thoughts in e-mails with his family and friends. Sheri has given me permission to share a portion of them by clicking here.
We pray in the name of Jesus who stilled the wind and waves.
God of mercy, help us all. Amen.
Rev. Margaret Gramley

Lenten Studies
Lenten Study led by Rev. Sang Hun Han Tuesdays, March 15 through April 19 at 7pm in the Library Thursdays, March 17 through April 21 at 10am in room 115 Sign up this Sunday. Walk with Jesus on his final day. Sit beside him at the Last Supper. Pray with him in Gethsemane. Follow him to the cross. Desert him. Deny him. Experience the Resurrection. This class is to help you better understand the events that occurred during the last 24 hours of Jesus' life, see more clearly the theological significance of Christ's suffering and death, and reflect upon the meaning of these events for your life. No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. The book we'll study, 24 Hours That Changed the World, by Adam Hamilton, is designed to help you experience and understand the significance of Jesus' suffering and death in a way you never have before. Whether you are a longtime Christian or simply curious about the story of Christ's crucifixion, you are invited to join us on this inspiring journey. Sunday mornings, 3/27, 4/3,10,17 Beth Jayapalan will lead a study at 9am.

 Glory Fingers Wins Gold
Approximately 500 people attended the 2011 Chicago Regional Christian Puppetry Festival in Tinley Park, IL last weekend including Kingswood's Glory Fingers Puppet team. Director Sheri Brubeck says the team was very involved in this year's festival. Krist Neumann had the honor of being one of the lead puppets in the One Way Street opening program. Krist also taught basic and advanced puppetry classes and Sheri taught Creative Song, Dowel Rods and Hand Mime. Glory Fingers presented our song "Read It" in the puppet song competition. Unfortunately, 2 of the 6 lead puppeteers in "Read It" could not attend, and one of the understudies got sick that morning. Krist saved the day filling in at the last minute with Brad Cadieux, Alex Dungan, Danny Harkess, Katie Horwitz, Lisa Marcson, Sarah McCune, Megan O'Donovan, and Melanie Pawlik. The team earned a Gold Award and an award for Outstanding Choreography! Save the Date: Glory Fingers new musical "The Narrow Brick Road" will be Saturday April 30, 2011 at 4pm and 7pm in the sanctuary. Krist Neumann Stars in 'Jesus Christ Superstar" Some of you may already know, but Krist is currently in rehearsals for the MOS & Theatre Nebula Production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. click here to read more...
