Dear Families, With the change in temperature, weather is an appropriate theme for our 2's Club students this week. The children will create a sunny beach portrait with sand and sea shell pasta shapes. The second art project of the week will involve constructing rain sticks. As the students create these Native American percussion instruments the focus will be on creative expression, fine motor skills, sensory development and sound awareness. Students will also use their new instruments during music time. Tambourines will be introduced as we sing a song about running in from the rain. Below are the lyrics if you would like to sing the song at home: Down come the raindrops splish, splish, splash.
Let's run for cover dash, dash, dash. Pitter patter, Pitter patter drip, drip drop. I'm under my umbrella till the raindrops stop. (children use the tambourine as an umbrella and hide underneath it making the rain sounds above their heads) Tropical Trail mix will be the snack of the week. It is our goal to serve new foods during our cooking and snack time. The students will make a mix of dried tropical fruits and cheerios while their teachers initiate conversation about where these new fruits grow, what animals eat them and how they taste. Bubbles are always a hit! Popping bubbles builds great tracking skills as we encourage the children to pop by pinching, tapping with their toes and even elbows! During science the children will create a bubble solution of their own and practice blowing and making bubbles with straws.
* Note: Monday classes will celebrate Halloween on 10/31.
Sincerely,
 Gair Morris Director
